Boyd Onel Manes, July 7, 1931-May 4, 2025 Family and friends are sad to share news of the passing of Boyd, a long-time resident of the Sun Lakes community. Boyd married Norma Luttrell in 2006 at her home in Oregon. Eight years were spent with summers in Oregon and winters in Sun Lakes before making Sun Lakes their permanent home in 2014. Together they enjoyed traveling many parts of the country including driving the Alcan Highway to visit her relatives in Alaska. Born in Grandfield, OK, Boyd moved with his family to Texas at a young age. He always credited growing up on a farm for his dedication to learning and to hard work. He was the sixth and youngest child of Edgar and Mary Manes. Boyd served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy prior to working for the U.S. Post Office. He worked his way up to an exciting career in the U.S. Postal Inspection Service with domiciles in Reno, Orange County, and Los Angeles. With his wife Rhoda (d) he raised five children: Debora Zellner (Larry), William Manes (d), Susan Manes, Brenda McGowan (d), and Robert Manes (Angie). He was the proud grandfather of 10 and 17 great-grandchildren. Boyd was a natural storyteller and a people person. He enjoyed his computer and woodworking projects in his open garage so folks could stop by to chat and be entertained by his stories. His cheerful and kind spirit never left him even as he dealt with health issues in his last few years. Cherished memories of Boyd will provide comfort to those whose lives were touched by his tenacious and unique personality.
