Each morning, I start my day, like other retirees, with first
feeding my cats, followed by a cup of coffee, checking my
messages, sending good morning messages to friends and
family, and playing a game or two. One of my favorite daily
messages is "Word of the Day."
It has become a favorite because I continue to discover words I
have never heard of before. Words like "lachrymose, pareidolia,
eustress." You can look those up yourself. Occasionally, one
comes to me that I want to use in writing or conversation.
Today that word is panegyric. e origin of the word is
Greek from the early 17th century. A panegyric is a public
speech or published text in praise of someone or something.
For example, lauding a volunteer group for the excellent service
to the community is a panegyric.
We live in a community comprised of incredibly talented
people, who take time to volunteer and serve our community
and residents. e Communication Advisory Committee,
Financial Advisory Committee, Design Review Committee,
Recreation Advisory Committee, Emergency Preparedness
Committee, Welcome Committee, Volunteers, and so many
others work to serve the residents of Solera Diamond Valley. I
appreciate all of them and will take every opportunity to say a
hearty "THANK YOU!" whenever I have the chance.
I hope that all SDV residents take a moment to speak or write
your "panegyric" for those who help to make this community a
wonderful place to live and play.
