Bocce club Please save the evening of November 15, 2025, for the Bocce Club's Great Gatsby Casino Night where we celebrate Gatsby's 100th Anniversary. Break out your dancing shoes and get you Gatsby attire ready for another great party! This month the Bocce Club honors another great player and also long-time treasurer of the Club. Next month we will catch up on Bocce Stats. Jean Meeks, the reigning Queen of the OHCC Bocce Club, brings a rich and diverse background to the court. Born in Las Vegas and raised in Idaho, Jean was an accomplished athlete from an early age — she played high school tennis and captured the Idaho State Girls Doubles Championship during her senior year. After earning her degree from California State University, San Bernardino, Jean built a successful career in Southern California's financial sector. That experience eventually inspired her to give back in a meaningful way: for the past 13 years, she has volunteered with AARP, preparing tax returns for those in need. A true example of community service. Jean relocated to OHCC in April 2016 from Redlands, California. A year later, she was introduced to bocce. Since then, she's embraced the sport and the community around it. "Everyone is so friendly and welcoming," she says of the Bocce Club. In her early days on the court, Jean received different tips from two helpful players — one advised her to "keep your palm open and throw the ball straight," while the other suggested, "place your thumb on top of the ball and point it toward your target." Jean joked that she had to remember who she was playing with to follow their specific advice! Eventually, she developed her own technique, which has brought her numerous bocces over the years and earned her the top spot on the ladies' bocce list in 2017 and again in 2024. Quiet, kind, and composed both in life and on the court, Jean Meeks stands out not just for her skill, but also for her gracious presence — a true asset to the OHCC Bocce Club. If you are interested in improving strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning, then you may want to consider attending an aerobics class to see if it fits your needs. This is an all-standing, low-impact class… NO JUMPING! The instructor leads each class in a warm- up session followed by an aerobic portion, and then she does a cool down. Occasionally, there are a few exercises for balance and an easy dance for fun. Light weights are used for the last 10 minutes of class. Classes are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am with instructor Christine Alesiani. You can choose the number of classes each week that you would like to attend. Note: There is no class available on the second Wednesday of each month because of the Garden Club Meeting. The cost is $5 per class paid directly to the instructor. You may pay for and try two classes without joining the club. The annual club dues are $ 6 (please make the check to OH Aerobics).
