| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2025 | 13 Who wants a copper penny in Sun Lakes? The U.S. Treasury wants to halt production of pennies. They say no one will even stoop to pick one up. No one wants them. Is this true? We conducted an experiment to confirm or deny Treasury's assertion as to the worth of the common copper penny. We started with two pennies placed on the sidewalk. Each day we added another coin: A nickel, then a dime, then a quarter, then a Susan B. Anthony dollar coin. If someone stooped to pick up the coins, would they include the two pennies, or leave them in the dusty street? Answer: All the coins were collected when the Susan B. hit the sidewalk. So, the lowly penny is still valued. Memo to Treasury: Keep on stamping those Lincoln pennies. We love our pennies. Note to person that collected the coin: Thank you. Morning of day six: All gone. Day ve: All six coins on sidewalk. One of the important roles of the Golf Advisory Committee (GAC) is to make recommendations to the Master Board regarding the maintenance needs of our two golf courses. These needs largely focus on turf conditions, trees, cart paths, and playing conditions. Recommendations prioritize the value of appearance for residents, playability for golfers, and the elimination of safety concerns that could negatively impact the HOA. When undertaking any maintenance project, plans are made with the goal to improve the function and appearance of the golf course upon completion. The golf courses at Sun Lakes are a valuable amenity for all homeowners. More than half our homes border one of the two golf courses. Home values in our community benefit greatly from this golf course setting that provides the open spaces and landscaping that comes with a well-manicured golf course. This sets our community apart from similar communities in the area. The GAC takes seriously their role in making recommendations to the Master Board for golf course maintenance projects that preserve home values and provide the best experience possible for golfers. ~ Mike Callahan, callahm56@yahoo.com Golf Advisory
