38 | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2025 | Our 5th of July pickleball tournament was a major success. We had 24 eager players, who all had a great time. Here are a couple of fun notes about the game. Pickleball is a low impact sport that can help improve cardiovascular health, reduce the risk of falls, and improve overall fitness. The game requires strategic thinking and hand-eye coordination, which can help sharpen cognitive function and potentially delay cognitive decline. By improving balance, reflexes, and range of motion, pickleball can help maintain independence and mobility. That's not to say we haven't had our share of mishaps on the courts, but hey, it's a sport and a fun one at that! We have paddles and balls that you can use, so give me a call or just come down and give it a try. There is always someone to give a helping hand. And as always, no reservations are necessary. Pickleball By Scott Ross, 310-213-3362 Racquet Club By Karen Nichols, 619-550-8194 It was the perfect pairing when the taco truck met Frank Sinatra at our last Racquet Club dinner! The food was yummy and the Sinatra Tribute show "Nice N Easy" was top notch. Our next dinner will be on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 5:30. Details will be provided later. The red, white and blue was on display for our July 4th Paddle Tennis Tournament. A beautiful day with the courts full netted us with the following winners for our regular tournament play. High- scoring ladies were Colleen Ray (19) and Jeanne Duggan (18), and for the men's group the winners were Glenn Sailer (18), Bruce Ray, Tom McClure and Tom Legro (16). Excellent play everyone! See you all next month. Thank goodness for air conditioning – for we get to run around and play ping pong when it is 100 degrees outside! Come in and say hello and check it out. We have a great, friendly and welcoming group. All levels are welcome. We play on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from 1 to 4 pm in the Auditorium.
