| THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2025 | 3 From the Desk of David Matteucci Happy Summer to All! By now we are all well into the heat of summer and, as expected, it appears to be a hot one. Hopefully you are enjoying this time with family and friends, staying cool by the pool or traveling and exploring new adventures. Lots of activities taking place both past, present and future. We had great Memorial Day and Fourth of July celebrations. Labor Day and Veterans Day are just around the corner. Also, around the corner is our HOA Board Elections. Five outstanding candidates have stepped up and volunteered to participate in the stewardship of The Colony. Although I was up for re-election I decided to take a step back, regroup and relax a bit, and allow fresh ideas and perspectives to man the ship. This will be my last letter to you for the foreseeable future. I would like to take a moment to ref lect on my three years serving on the Board and to thank all who supported me. It has been my pleasure serving as your director. It has been a rewarding learning experience understanding the complexities of governance in a community of this size. They say it "takes a village," boy are they right. While each Director brings varied experiences to the table, the collaborative goal is to do what is best for the community overall. While we don't always achieve perfection, in the end a consensus is achieved to do the right thing. For that I am grateful to my fellow Board members. Before leaving I want to point out some new and old topics. First, our turf renovation is well underway, and water rebates are forthcoming. Next, if you have been by the lounge or kitchen lately you may have noticed some brand-new shiny equipment in both areas (i.e. ice machines, refrigeration and stove), all in an effort to improve our ability to provide the best possible experience for our community social events. By the way, speaking of community, have you considered helping the Emergency Preparedness Committee by being a Block Captain or Area Coordinator? I have been a Block Captain now for several years. It is very rewarding and a great way to meet your neighbors, make new acquaintances within the group, and provide a much-needed service. We have approximately 140 Blocks in The Colony. We have at present only 90 Blocks with coverage. So, help is needed in case of an emergency. It doesn't require a lot of time or expertise (although any expertise is welcome) but just to be there to check in on your neighbors in a time of need. If you can, please help and reach out to Jackie Price, EPC Chair at 415-203-6445. Well, that is all for now, until we meet again. I will leave you with this thought: "Happiness is like a butterf ly, the more you chase it the more it will elude you. But if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder." Aloha & Arrivederci, Dave
