| THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2025 | 15 EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE By Judy King, Secretary EPC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED By Bob Clare, 951-907-2740 Annual Tabletop Exercise The Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC) held our annual tabletop exercise on June 7. Our tabletop exercises are used to test emergency preparedness plans and identify weaknesses in existing procedures. The exercise involved a well-planned hypothetical scenario developed specifically for our field teams and facilitated by Sharon Carlson, EPC Deputy Incident Commander, and attended by Mike Nunez, EPC Incident Commander. The EPC field team includes Area Coordinators, Block Captains, Nurses, and Search & Rescue. Also included in the exercise were the EPC Committee members who represented various roles involved in the emergency. Participants discussed how they would respond depending on their roles and responsibilities. The EPC Committee would like to recognize and give special thanks to all members of our Field team, which includes Search & Rescue, Nurses, Area Coordinators and Block Captains, for participating in the exercise. We are in desperate need of additional Area Coordinators (AC) and Block Captains (BC). As a member of the field team, you will be equipped with a radio or walkie-talkie, vests, supplies, and instructions on how to help your neighbors. If you are interested in joining our team, please contact one of the members listed in e Colony News Magazine on page 2 under Emergency Response Team. The time commitment for an AC & BC is less than 12 hours per year. The Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC) is an all- volunteer group of residents that includes an Emergency Response Team (ERT). The ERT is comprised of an Incident Commander (IC) that oversees the Area Coordinators (ACs) and Block Captains (BCs) assigned to a specific street and/or area within The Colony. The Colony is organized into 17 areas consisting of 141 blocks. The EPC and ERT would like to have individuals cover all blocks and areas. Unfortunately, not all positions are filled. You DO NOT have to be an EPC committee member to volunteer to be an AC or BC. The AC is responsible for ensuring their area is adequately covered with enough BCs to check homes for damage or injuries in the event of an emergency. The areas that currently need an Area Coordinator are: • Via Francisco and Via Isabella; • Via Prima Vera, Corte Lucia and Vias Estrada and Malagas south of Via Hacienda (towards the Clubhouse); • Vias Tiama, Compadres, Alta Mira, Barletta, Aguadulce and Ambiente; • Corte Albara and Corte Picante; • Via Tonada and Via Marisa; • Vias Octavo, Graziana, Llano, Oporta and Calle Artino. The basic responsibility of the BC is to make sure that, in the event of an emergency, everyone in your assigned block is safe. The streets that critically need one or more Block Captains are: Via Aguadulce, Via Alta Mira, Via Ambiente, Corte Andar, Calle Artino, Via Calidad, Via Camposeco, Corte Fortuna, Via Graziana, Via Llano, Via Marisa, Via Pamilla, Corte Peralta, Via Tonada, and Corte Valente. If you are interested in helping out The Colony community, please contact Jackie Price at 415-203-6445 or Bob Clare at 951- 907-2740. The Search and Rescue team, an integral part of the ERT, is also in need of volunteers. If you feel your skills better fit Search and Rescue, contact Karl Gerlach at 714-746-5902. This is especially true if you have CERT training.
