| THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2025 | 37 Men's Golf By Rich Brown Colony Couples 2Ball By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 Ladies Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 951-461-0065 After a very hot round of golf, the 9-holers enjoyed a delicious lunch, socializing, and having an informative meeting. The winners of the day's scramble were announced and the Ringer Chair handed out the second quarter ringer money. We are excited about our Charity Tournament coming up on Oct. 7. It will be a no-frills, fun golf day, with no handicaps required. The Men's Golf Club has been invited to join us, as well as outside guests. Hospice of the Valley and Michelle's Place are our two charities, and we hope it's a successful fundraising day for them. Representatives from both charities will be attending the lunch and talking about their work. If you are interested in joining us for this special day, please contact me. It should be a great day to golf and to help two very worthy causes. Our club is very active, and we enjoy our golf and lunch meetings. If you are interested in joining us, please contact our membership chair, Linda Peterson, at 951-239-2996. We hope to see you on the links. Stay cool! Allow me to first begin with an announcement of an historical record. On that warm and sunny afternoon, and while our great country was getting ready to begin celebrating its 249th anniversary, our tournament fielded a packed house of 54 golfers. It was the most ever golfers to play on the front nine of our 9-hole game, and it gave us the highest number of teams and players, with nine teams of six players teeing off. Another highlight was having five newbies in the lineup. It was a most exciting beginning for the fourth year of our tournaments. Would you like to join us? Give me a call or drop me an email at dmurph44@verizon. net and I will send you a 2025 tournament schedule (first Thursday afternoon of the month), rules of the game and include you in our active mailing list. Our next contest is set for Thursday, Aug. 7. Requirements for this event are to be able to grasp a club! Being a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Club is not required. Just pick up some sticks and join us for a friendly afternoon of fun. Look forward to hearing from you. See ya on the links! The Colony Men's Golf Club had a busy month of June with our Pancake Breakfast and scholarship tournament, which were both successful events. As we move into warmer months, the Men's Club will continue to play an 18-hole tournament every Wednesday at the California Oaks Golf Club. We play a variety of games ranging from serious to fun and always with exciting competition. We are a fun-loving group, taking golfers of all skill levels and elevating their game through regular play. After the game, we usually gather around the patio talking about the highlights of the game. If you are interested in joining our group, there are membership forms, a schedule of games and game winners on our website at http://colonymensgolf.net. If you have any questions about membership for the CMGC, please contact George Herrera at 760-533-0350 for more information. If you want to play golf with us, contact Greg Griffes at 951-383- 9988 or gggriffes@gmail.com. e Winners Bocce By Jeanne Bender, 949-295-5412 Summer is heating up and Bocce has a new time, 5 to 7 pm every Thursday. Bring a snack and a drink and come join in the camaraderie with your fellow friends and neighbors. There are tables and chairs with umbrellas for shade, and we usually have a breeze to help us stay comfortable. Water and ice are always provided, so come on down to the Bocce court and play a game or two. It's fun and easy to learn. If you don't want to play, you can always sit and chat with everyone.
