MOSQUITO NETTING REASON FOR PROPOSE RULE CHANGE The existing Article 18 – Patio and Ground Deck Installation is currently silent, and does NOT prohibit the placement of mosquito netting on the patio covers. However, the article also does not inform residents that mosquito netting is an option. The purpose of this new Rule 18.4 is to give residents an option to control, or reduce, the summer exposure to mosquito bites. PROPOSED NEW RULE 18.4 MOSQUITO NETTING Homeowners are permitted to install mosquito netting on patio covers, provided the following standards are met to maintain community aesthetics and uniformity: (a) The installation must be non-permanent in nature, using only Velcro or magnetic strips for attachment along either the exterior or interior of the patio cover and may not be affixed to the home's exterior walls or extend beyond the patio cover structure. Permanent fasteners such as nails, screws, or adhesives are not permitted. (b) Only black netting is allowed, and it must be sheer in appearance. Acceptable materials are limited to polymer or polymer fiberglass mesh. The netting must be kept clean and in good condition. (c) Netting may not be draped or sagging in any way that detracts from the visual appearance of the property. Any netting that becomes torn, stained, or visibly worn must be promptly removed or replaced. 28-Day Member Comment (Approved for publication 6-19-25; August's Colony News Magazine)
