Why would a weight loss and healthy living group spend time coloring? Well, the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) group has started another challenge. This one involves tracking our successes by coloring various vegetables, each worth one point. This challenge is a bit more difficult than previous ones because it requires us to do healthy activities three or four times more than before. We have four weeks to complete it. We also spent a week discussing different types of stomach surgeries, examining the pros, cons, and successes of each. We found that we learned a lot, and most of us would choose not to try surgery, although it can be very effective if dietary guidelines are followed. Additionally, we dedicated a session to exploring the "WHY" behind our plan to lose weight. It's important to remember why we started this journey and keep that goal in mind. Finally, we discussed sugars and sweeteners, looking at facts, studies, and myths. We discovered that often there are other options that can substitute for the sweet taste we crave. You might find that a group like TOPS can help you too. We meet on Tuesday at 8:30 am in the Ballroom. It is branded with three numbers: 9-11. It is our Pearl Harbor that guided our parents lives and reminds us of the meaning of sacrifice for our values and obligations as Americans. For veterans it is both personal and public. Most of us remember watching it unfold live on television knowing many would be called or recalled in response. ~ Len Tavernetti, ltavernetti@ hotmail.com FS Veterans Club I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone in attendance at our July meeting. The feedback I received was very positive. Everyone enjoyed the presentations as well as the wines. Thank you for your attention and for maintaining a respectful silence during the presentations. Our next meeting is Thursday, Sept. 18. Doors open at 5:15 pm. Bring the usual – two glasses, a bottle of wine, and a little something to share with your table. We welcome back Heidi Daniels from Michael David Winery. She will have a great line up of wines to taste and purchase. She never disappoints us. The wines she brought for our July meeting were truly out of this world! IYKYK Rich Gabriel will talk about wine and food pairings that will enhance any dinner or occasion, whether you're hosting a formal event or enjoying a casual meal at home. I'm eager to discover the delicious pairings Rich will share and look forward to learning new ways to elevate any meal. Tim Danson (not Ted) will take us through his incredible 50-year career with Channel 7 ABC News in Southern California. He was a cameraman and has some intriguing stories to share with us. Not sure if he will tell all, but at least he will tell some of the stories. Looking forward to trying Heidi's wines this month. See you there. ~ Tom DePaola, tomdepaola@roadrunner.com, (714) 404-1956 Taste d'Vine Why would a weight loss and healthy living group spend time coloring?
