The Aug. 2 Cars and Coffee gathering went on as usual, handled
by Vice President Rick Morales, with more than 15 cars and proud
owners attending. I was unable to attend because Rocky Shaw and
I were invited to a private showing of the Galpin Motors Custom
Auto Museum, held at the Galpin Speed Shop in Van Nuys. Curator
Dave Shuten was on hand to greet us and answer any questions.
The museum is by invitation only and not open to the public. It
features displays by famed automotive design legends such as
Chuck Barris, Ed "Big Daddy Roth," and many more. It was pretty
cool seeing the "Rat Fink" display, Elvira's 1958 custom T-Bird, The
Batmobile, The Mysterian, Munster Mobile, and other automobiles
we grew up watching on TV shows and building in model form.
Our Veterans Car Show is scheduled for Nov. 8. We are in the
process of planning the event. If anyone would like to suggest
something different from last year's show, please contact me by
phone or email.
Please join us for our next meeting on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 9 am
in The Lodge parking lot for some coffee and donuts and great
conversation with other car enthusiasts. Looking forward to
seeing you there. If you've never attended our gathering, please
join us — there is NO membership fee or other fuss. Just show up!
The ladies are more than welcome to attend.
