| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2025 | 3 From the Master Board The Labor Day holiday came early this year, on the 1st! This holiday dates back to 1882 during the Industrial Revolution when working conditions were often harsh and sparked labor activism. Today, we can thank those brave workers who risked and fought for fair working conditions, and we can remember this holiday by treating each other with respect and kindness. Most of us are retired from our working lives, but we can still be thankful for the work we did here in America. Whether you celebrate with a barbecue of your own or enjoy the amenities here in Sun Lakes, take the time to thank and appreciate the many workers in our community — those in administration, food and beverage, landscaping, maintenance, and janitorial services. Show your appreciation the next time you see a worker cleaning the clubhouses or working in the gardens around our common areas. The Resident Surveys are now complete, and the Board looks forward to reviewing the results and sharing them with everyone. Administration will help us combine these survey results with the age verification data and present some insights and profiles at the next Open Session. Activities Day is Sept. 20, so come out and learn about all the active clubs, groups, and recreation programs available for participation and volunteering. Instead of just reading about them in this magazine, come meet the organizers and other participants, make some new connections and friends, and get ready to have a great time! The clock tower project is underway and on track to open in December. Many thanks to all of you who purchased one! Bricks are currently available for purchase at the Main Clubhouse Pro Shop and are open to all residents. This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance our community and honor loved ones. The new reserve study will be available this month through the new software vendor, Smart Properties. This tool will help manage our repair and replacement schedules, align with our annual budget, monitor cash f low, and track the condition of the property. The dog park is scheduled to open Tues., Sept. 2. We haven't yet chosen a name as of this writing, but by the time this is printed, it should be finalized. The opening celebration and ribbon-cutting will be a joyful event! "Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American Workers." – US Dept of Labor "A lot of hard work is hidden behind nice things." – Ralph Lauren Joe Ganino, Bob Walter, Gary Burkel, Sandra Gutknecht, and Mary Jo McElwain
