50 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2025 | The Veterans Club of Sun Lakes Board decided that Sun Lakes residents needed a location and method to properly dispose of used American f lags. With the approval of the Master Board and FirstService Residential a location was selected in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Since the custom box was made and installed, over 160 f lags have been placed in the drop off box. Certainly, indicated that there was a need here at Sun Lakes for this service. Club member Larry Middlesworth checks the box quite often and will retrieve the f lags and fold them if needed for proper donation. Currently the collected f lags are taken to the Yucaipa Fire Department for collection and processing. The f lag box was specially made by Doc's Woodshop in Yucaipa FREE of charge once the owner Glenn Holden found out that it was for a Veterans Club and for use of retiring used American f lags. Thank you. The finishing touches of the Flag Donation Box were done by Veteran Club members Larry Middlesworth and Tom Boyle. Thank you, gentlemen. Sun Lakes residents — continue to put old f lags in the box, but without any f lag poles or other accessories. August's guest speaker was Master Sergent Edwards Brackins, who participated, trained and led the JR RTOC around the Sun Lakes July Fourth Parade with nine cadets. Master Sergent Brackins discussed the ROTC Program and reviewed how the training impacts the school, youth, family and their potential career in the military. Master Sergent Brackins is the currently the Air Force JR ROTC Instructor with the Beaumont Unified School district for over 11 years. Previously he was the JRROTC instructor for 17 years for Hemet Unified School District. He served in the US Air Force for over 22 years.
