Table Tennis/Ping Pong
Our regular play times are Mondays
and Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm, Fridays
from 1 to 3 pm, Saturdays from 10 am to
12 pm. Because of scheduling conf licts for
the ballroom, we sometimes get bumped
into "special play times," that are updated
on the SLCC website, and printed copies
are available on play days in the Ballroom.
There is also a touch-screen monitor in the
Main Clubhouse Lobby, where the schedule
can be brought up. If there are any questions
or concerns, contact Gary Lile at (805) 722-
7427, 4lile@yahoo.com, or leave a message
with John Williams at (951) 489-9737,
jgwms.williams@gmail.com. All comers are welcome, the only
requirements are laced tennis shoes, and a desire to have fun, play
with friends, and get some excellent health benefits from a low risk
activity.
Sun Lakes Table Tennis extends a warm welcome to recent Sun
Lakes resident Roberta Collins. Roberta moved to Sun Lakes
from Redlands on May 31, 2025. She is having lots of fun meeting
new people and getting involved in all the activities at Sun Lakes.
Roberta was born in Los Angeles and has been a California gal
ever since. She lived in Bellf lower, Norwalk,
and Rialto before settling in Redlands.
She earned a Masters degree at CSUSB
and worked for the Rialto Unified School
District as a teacher at all levels. She had the
pleasure of training several student teachers.
Roberta has three daughters, six grandkids,
and six great-grandkids, and feels fortunate
that they all live close by in the SoCal area.
Her hobbies and interests revolve around
traveling to far away places, and has been
to many countries in Europe, Africa, and
North and South America. What does she
think about playing table tennis at SLCC?
"Lots of fun and it's a great way to lose weight !"
Table Tennis lines up with her interests in pursuing a healthy,
active lifestyle in retirement. She notes the fun of learning how
to detect and hit the ball with top, under, and side spins. Initially,
she had no idea how to do this, and other nuances of the game.
Therefore, we decided to coach her by calling out the types of spins
delivered to her. Then, after a few repetitions, and watching how
the opponent's paddle strikes the ball, she was able to understand
and improve her game.
