Dr. Joseph Alan Elliott (Alan) October 12, 1934 - July 7, 2025. Joseph "Alan" Elliott passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication to his family, country, and community. Born on October 12, 1934, in Montebello, California, Alan lived a full and meaningful life rooted in kindness, integrity, and a deep sense of compassion. Alan was a proud scholar, attending Occidental College and California State University, Long Beach before going on to receive his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Michigan. He carried his academic achievements into a life of purpose — first as an educator, serving as a teacher, principal, and later as an assistant superintendent in the Fullerton School District. After his career in education, he practiced for over 20 years as a respected clinical psychologist in Fullerton, California. A proud veteran, Alan served in the United States Navy from May 1957 to December 1959. He attended Navy Flight School and was stationed aboard the USS Toledo, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. His military service remained a source of deep pride throughout his life. Alan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was married twice and deeply adored his second wife, Donna Elliott, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his children Jennifer (Elliott) Goldwag and Michael Elliott, and stepchildren Bobbi Bridwell, and Mark Michael. He was predeceased by his daughter Cindy (Elliott) Dooley. Alan's legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Christopher Dooley, Jimmy Dooley, Jenaya Goldwag, Kiara Goldwag, Joshua Goldwag, Zachary Elliott, Benjamin Elliott, and Christopher Elliott; and step-grandchildren: Bradley Bridwell, Kristina Bridwell, and Heather Michael. His great-grandchildren Colton Dooley (child of Chris Dooley), Elaina Dooley-Donaldson (child of Jimmy Dooley), Aurora Goodell and Asher Goodell (children of Jenaya Goldwag), and step-great- grandchild Beckett Rhodes Bridwell (child of Bradley Bridwell), will continue to carry forward his spirit. Alan was also cherished by his siblings, David Elliott, Delbert Elliott, and Susan (Elliott) Holbrook. In his later years, he found companionship, love, and joy with his dear friend Lavonne Jongerius of Banning, where he lived for many years in Sun Lakes. Alan had a warm heart, an infectious laugh, and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures — a good meal, a loyal dog, and the thrill of a Michigan Wolverines football game. He was known for his gentle nature, his ability to make others feel at ease, and his unwavering love for his family. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Alan's memory to the Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society to assist active duty and retired service members — a cause close to his heart. 70 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2025 |
