4 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | SEPTEMBER 2025 By John Schunn, Board Member During Covid, my wife Pam and I took a lot of short (1½ to 3 hours) road trips, just to get out of the house. It cost us a few pounds since we ate out often, mainly at fast food drive through places, but it was enjoyable and eased our stress with the pandemic. We would drive to Dana Point to have lunch (El Torito's or Harpoon Henry's), then come home. Sometimes we would take the 15 freeway south, then highway 76 west to Oceanside. We then drove south on the Pacific Coast Highway to Carlsbad (shopped a while), and to either Vigilucci's Seafood & Steakhouse or drive down to Cardiff by the Sea (Solana Beach) and eat at the Chart House; both with GREAT food and views of the ocean. We just went there July 16th. Another 1 ½ hr. trip (one way) to Julian is a real nice drive. We would eat at Miner's Diner, have a big hot dog, seasoned fries and the old-style fountain vanilla milk shake (metal container) enough for two tall glass fillings, while watching/listening to the train going around the inside of the restaurant. Then of course, we'd go shopping. Last year we went on a LONG, approximately 6,000 miles road trip. First stop in Las Vegas, Nevada, then Salt Lake City, Utah, next was Omaha, Nebraska, (short overnight stops on the way), then to the John Wayne Museum in Winterset, Iowa. Then, on to South Bend, Indiana (Notre Dame University – the Cathedral was one of the highlights of our trip). Last stop was Streetsboro, Ohio (outside Cleveland). We visited with cousins, kids, grandkids, niece, and my sisters. I'm so glad we were able to see them all, never know if we'll be able to again, but hope so. On the way home we stopped in Williamstown, Kentucky to see the ARK ENCOUNTER. It was amazing, built per the specification's (cubic's) of the Bible. Whether you're religious or not, it would be worth your while to see it, if you're back that way; you'll need a full day (Drury Hotel next to it). Tired, so we headed back home, via Anthem, Arizona to visit with our son, his wife, and more grandkids. It was a Great Trip, but it was so nice to get Home. "Do what you can as soon as you can, don't procrastinate; tomorrow may never come"… A quote from Nightbird, America's Got Talent contestant, 2022. In August, I had all four Facility Monitors on-site for a training session. This will help with productivity and efficiency, and each Monitor fully understands what is expected of them during their shift. With both large and small tasks, the Monitors should be able to complete everything assigned to them. Management is also able to review and verify the work done and know who was responsible for the tasks. I believe this will improve the look of the common areas, as they get cleaned, by both shifts. The Monitors work hard to ensure the common areas look nice, so be sure to show them some gratitude! Deciding Happy Keeping Steady By Tyler Barber, Assistant General Manager to be
