| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2025 |23 Village Vets As the photos show, it was a great day to head down to Point Loma for a visit to the submarine pens. It turned out to be one of our most challenging trips, but sometimes you don't know until you try! A big Bravo Zulu to our Tour Directors, Mike Welch and Marty Budoff and volunteers for making sure the crew returned (mostly) in one piece. We've got several events coming up — mark your calendars! September: We're planning a general meeting on either Sept. 11 OR Sept. 25. We've invited two speakers and are waiting for final confirmation. It's been a bit of a scheduling challenge — but hang in there with us! As soon as I get final confirmation, I will blast off emails, announce them in the Bugle, have Jack place the final date on our website, and send out carrier pigeons! Sept. 28: Return of Honor Flight. San Diego International Airport. No bus, but we try to organize a carpool for those interested in seeing this amazing event. Oct. 23: Our General Meeting is confirmed. Colonel Susz Clark will be our featured speaker and will also help run the program. At this meeting, we'll also hold officer elections for Commander, Vice Commander, Treasurer, and Secretary. If you are interested in becoming an officer, please contact David Hef ler. Nov. 11 – Veterans Day: Our Veterans Day Committee is hard at work to ensure another meaningful event. This year's theme is The Cold War, and our featured speaker will be Colonel Scott Battles, USAF (Retired). As Pat Battles likes to remind us — Scott is the "junior Colonel" in the family! Dec. 12: We'll close out the year with our annual holiday bash. More details to come, but expect good food, great company, and a festive time. And one last reminder: September is typically our hottest month, so as stated in last month's OHCC Living — stay hydrated, my friends! See you soon! ~ Cap'n Bob We had a great response to the Art Studio photo display, thank you to all our members who submitted their outstanding work. We're fortunate to have so many talented individuals in our club and are grateful for the opportunity to showcase their creativity. Be sure to stop by before Oct. 11, when a new display will be installed. The sunset photo is from Sherri McDaniel, the Lake Louise photo is from Vince Siciliano, and the Hidden Garden photo is from Ann Force. I just picked three, there were so many good ones, but we are limited to three per article in OHCC Living. Our September meeting for the Photo Club will be used to prepare for our offsite photo shoot at the Old Town San Diego Historic State Park. Robert Genat will be our taskmaster telling us how to photograph as if for publication in a magazine. The offsite will be on Oct. 16; members are welcome to go earlier or later if it fits better. We'll have a review of the photos at our November meeting. If any member has recent experience with the Coaster train, I hope you can come to the meeting on Sept. 18 to share your experience. The Photo Club is open to all residents. Annual dues are $10. Written by Jim McDonough, jamespmcdonough@gmail.com , (760) 593-9994 Photography
