28 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2025 | PaperCrafting's Social Committee plan and coordinate festive events for club members. The Papercrafting Club (PC) Groups have been reviewed this year in past issues of this OHCC Living. Now it's time to celebrate another important committee that serves the Club — the Social Committee. Led by co-leaders Janeen Shellen and Jacqueline Ettinger, the committee also includes PC members who assist the individual event, like Sunny Frowein, who assisted with the ice cream social. They coordinate events that invite all 60 plus members of the Papercrafting Club to get together and enjoy each other's company outside of the weekly group classes. This opportunity gives members the chance to socialize with fellow PaperCrafters in a light and fun way. Usually, delicious treats and refreshments are also provided to enjoy. I can't ignore the decorations that add a festive touch to each event providing a WOW value. This year the committee worked on the January Do Dues Day event welcoming new members, a delightful ice cream social, a donut table for the Craft Fair and special note-card-making classes for various groups like SALT. In September, they will lead the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Club with election of officers, a potluck lunch, and a make-and-take project led by PaperCrafting's highly creative member Jan Malone. We will update you on this meeting in the October issue of OHCC Living. At right are some photos of the leaders and activities so far this year. Written by Lorraine Kleeman Papercrafting Club "To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow." – Audrey Hepburn How to Successfully Grow Bulbs in our North County Microclimate Many of us have planted fall bulbs. We wait with bated breath to see if f lowers will appear months later to brighten our spring gardens. It's a joy when colorful f lowers appear and a disappointment when nothing comes up. You wonder what went wrong. Was the hole too deep, were the bulbs planted upside down or did a critter feast on the bulbs? If this has happened to you, help is on the way! Our September speaker, Sharon Reeve, is a Master Gardener and lists among her many accomplishments owning a design business specializing in drought-tolerant, native and wildlife gardens along with writing a gardening column. Sharon will discuss how to select and plant bulbs for vibrant colors and scents in your garden for years to come. Event details: Wed., Sept. 10 with social time at 9:30 am and the meeting starting at 10 am in Abravanel Hall. Join the Garden Club for just $10 per year — sign up at any meeting. Be sure to stop by the Share Table for gardening treasures. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting! On another topic, the Garden Club will be selling hot dogs at the Fall Festival on Sat., Sept. 27. Stop by for a tasty snack.
