30 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2025 | Pet Lovers Club Project Street Vet Project Street Vet was founded by Dr. Kwane Stewart (pictured below), who, for the past decade, has provided free veterinary care to pets of people experiencing homelessness— walking the streets of high homelessness to seek pets and pet parents in need. Based in San Diego, in 2023, the organization was awarded the CNN "Hero of the Year. We were honored to have representatives as our guest speakers at our Sat., Aug. 2, meeting. Pet Lovers Club president, Ellen Kippel, writes: "We had a great annual Pet Lovers Club potluck on Aug. 3. As always, there was plenty of great food, and the presentation from the two representatives from Project Street Vet was inspiring. "Everyone was having a good time. I want to thank those who helped with the setup and cleanup. I couldn't have done it without you. We got lots of donated items for the dog and cat rescues we were supporting. I am still collecting dog and cat items, including both dry and wet food for the less fortunate pets in the rescues. You can bring any donated items to my house at 4909 Tilos and leave it at our front door. "For those who did not attend, we missed you and hope you will be able to join us next year." Our 2025 annual meeting will be Sat., Nov. 1 in the morning. I am hoping to have Bill Toone, the founder of ECOLIFE Conservation who gave a fantastic presentation at the recent library author series. He gave a presentation on his activities to save the condors. I have asked him to do a presentation at our November meeting on his activities to save the Monarch butterf ly. I hope you will be able to attend the meeting. More details will follow. Thank you for your continuing membership in the OHCC Pet Lovers Club. We are continuing to grow and currently have 320 members in 195 households. Written by Ellen Kippel and Karen Hastings Help Shape the Future of the Wine Tasting Club: Run for the Board The Ocean Hills Wine Tasting Club is more than just a place to enjoy great wine — it's a vibrant community built on shared experiences, lasting friendships, and the creativity of its members. As the club continues to grow and evolve, so does the need for thoughtful, enthusiastic leadership. That's why we're inviting you to consider running for a position on the Board of Directors. Serving on the Board is a rewarding way to get more involved, contribute your talents, and help guide the direction of the club. Board members play a vital role in planning events, coordinating tastings, managing club communications, and keeping our activities aligned with the interests of our members. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to collaborate, share ideas, and take part in decision-making. Whether your strengths lie in organization, creativity, communication, or simply enthusiasm for wine and community, there's a place for you at the table. Officer commitments are for one year and Board meetings, which include the coordinators of the nine wine groups, are held monthly. Responsibilities are shared among a team of supportive and friendly fellow members, making this a great opportunity to learn and contribute without feeling overwhelmed. If you've enjoyed attending events like our themed wine tastings or the annual Dinner Dance, and you'd like to play a part in shaping future activities, now is the time to step forward. New voices and fresh perspectives help keep the club dynamic and inclusive. If you're interested in serving — or know someone who would make a great candidate — please contact the Nominating Committee. They'll be accepting names during the nomination period and can provide more details about the responsibilities and expectations. Serving on the Board is a great way to deepen your connection to the club, meet new people, and ensure the Wine Tasting Club continues to thrive for years to come. If you're ready to make a difference, build community, and help keep our club thriving — run for the Board. We'd love to have you. Nominating Committee - Joann Bush (303) 810-2019, Kathy Hatton (916) 662-5907 or Tim Rogers (412) 965-4006. The Wine Tasting Club is open to all residents of OHCC for an annual fee of $15.
