| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2025 | 35 Where has the time gone? The first of September is Labor Day, the unofficial start of fall. May we continue to have nice cool ocean breezes! The Travel Club is busy planning day trips to parts of Southern California. Places we would like to visit and hope you will also. If there is a place you would like to visit or experience, please feel free to contact us (ohcctravelclub2025@gmail.com) with your suggestions. Here are our upcoming trips: Nov. 5-8 - A trip to Laughlin Nevada via Motorcoach to the Riverside Resort and Casino on the Colorado River. Included will be trips to Oatman Arizona, a former mining town, and Bullhead City for a Balloon Festival. The Resort hosts many features in addition to the casino. There is a six-screen cinema, bowling alley, bingo, a pool, two classic car museums, restaurants, a riverboat cruise and much more. Dec. 22 - Join us for a trip to the San Diego Zoo for their holiday spectacular "Jungle Bells." We will experience the magic and spirit of the holiday season with the myriad lights, decorations, and amazing entertainment plus a variety of dining options. There will be entertainers such as Jingle Brass, a brass ensemble; Reindeer Games, an interactive experience of games and dances; Jack Frost Juggler; Holiday Troubadour; Toy Shop Hop and of course the animals (until 5 pm). General Meeting and Elections Oct. 14 - We will have a General Meeting, Elections and a Presentation by AFC Vacations regarding a potential trip to New York City in 2026. 2026 - We are working on some wonderful (we think) trips for next year! Stay tuned. Frequently people on a trip need to cancel. Many people on our wait lists actually have had the opportunity to go on our trips. To be placed on the waitlist or to register for any of our trips, leave a check made out to the OH Travel Club, in the Travel Club envelope at the Clubhouse front desk. Add $5 to the price if you are not a member of the Club. You will receive an email confirming your registration. We certainly hope you will join us on one of our trips! A huge thanks to our amazing Social Club Presidents for spreading the word and sharing our referral f lyer. Your support helps us reach residents who could benefit from a friendly boost through our Friend Connections program. We appreciate you! What's the best way to kick off fall? SALT Club says: pizza, great company, and a fresh dose of inspiration. Join us on Sept. 23 from 2:30 – 4 pm in Abravanel Hall. We're kicking things off with a laid- back pizza party where we'll catch up, chow down on your favorite slices, and celebrate the powerful connections SALT members have made in our community. You'll hear about the real impact being made — neighbor to neighbor. We're excited to highlight two inspiring efforts from our Friend Connections serving arm, led by the Chairs of Paper Treasures and Engaging Our Neighbors. Paper Treasures: The mission of our small, but important, committee is to personally deliver encouraging handwritten cards to those who need a cheery little reminder that they are loved and not forgotten. (Those who are lonely, depressed, ill or injured, or just need a bit of cheering up!) We want everyone in Ocean Hills CC to know they are not alone no matter their situation. Referrals of those who could benefit from a little card in their tube (lovingly created by the Papercrafting Club) should be sent to Linda McGrath salt.ohcc.paper@gmail.com. Engaging Our Neighbors: The purpose of this committee is to make connections and develop relationships with residents who are in need of assistance, including neighbors who are homebound, severely visually or hearing impaired, recovering from surgery, or a serious illness. We can visit, play cards or games, read, craft, or be walking buddies! Our goal is to build meaningful relationships and make a positive difference in your life. We also provide practical support, including a list of caregiving and transportation services for both local and long-distance needs. If you are aware of neighbors who might benefit from our services please call them, knock on their door, and let them know help is available. We care about them. Contact Marilyn Birkes- salt.ohcc. engage@gmail.com for a referral form. Join the SALT Club — We'd love to have you! Membership: $10/person forms available at the front desk or online at https:// saltoceanhillscc.wixsite.com/saltohcc. Written by Jeannie Critcheld Questions? Email us at saltoceanhillscc@gmail.com
