50 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2025 |
The Veterans Club of Sun Lakes Board met at our monthly
gathering with special guest Sally Dunn, a Sun Lakes resident
with Quilts of Valor Foundation (picture above). The Foundation's
mission is to provide comfort and healing to military service
members and veterans "touched by war" with Quilts of Valor. Sally
brought quilts to display, reviewed the program, and explained how
to sign up and obtain wonderful local homemade quilts.
Members Bob Schive and Cliff Rogers shared their military
service stories with the club. Participation in this is optional for
any member.
The club was updated that we have collected nearly 200 older
American Flags at the new American Flag Disposal box located
in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. This special box was made and
finished by club members Tom Boyle and Larry Middlesworth, with
a special engraving on the lid.
The Veterans Club participated in the Pass Area Veterans Expo
in Beaumont, preparing and presenting the POW/MIA Table at this
event, which offered valuable information for veterans and families.
The club also took part in the recent Sun Lakes New Resident
"Welcome Home" event and had a table at the Sept. 20 Sun Lakes
Club Activities Day.
Upcoming events include a scheduled Oct. 16 private tour of the
March Airfield Base with direct access to active military planes and
their crews. We are planning a holiday party in December.
