Let's get the bad news out of the way. We did not have a garage sale fundraiser this year. The proceeds usually cover about half of our postage cost for the year. So, if anyone knows of a way to raise some money, it would be a Godsend. Now for some good news. Marty and Diana Mangan will be hosting the music event fund raiser again this year. Let's max out the attendance on this show. Marty and I will have tickets for sale. They are $15 each for an afternoon of GREAT MUSIC. The date and time will be Sun., Nov. 16 at 2 pm. The show is called Broadway Salutes Our Troops. It is table seating. You can bring your own snacks and any beverages you like. There will also be a raff le at the end of the show. Do plan on attending the show. If you can, donate a basket of items or something else for the raff le, that would be great. Here is the first step: Put It On Your Calendar. Our troop care package program has always operated with the help of the people in Solera. This may be donating items, raising postage funds, donating time to help organize incoming items, packing boxes, writing Christmas cards, and even printing our monthly photo cards. It is, and has always been a community effort. We usually are supporting between 10 and 15 groups of service men and women at a time. A group in England and another in Australia have just dropped off. That leaves us with 12 units at the current time. At the time of writing this article, we had just packed and mailed eleven large apple boxes, and one slightly smaller box with all sorts of goodies. Here are where those boxes went. Three went to Coast Guard Cutters patrolling the Persian Gulf. Then one each as follows, a Navy Destroyer, an Air Craft Carrier, to Jordan, Romania, Qatar, Cuba, Kuwait, Djibouti, and the island of Tinian. I just wrote a letter to an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel in the Netherlands Antilles in the Southern Caribbean, offing our support. We truly do support our service men and women, all over the world. Thank you for doing so much and thank you for caring. ~ Jesse Donardt | LIFE IN SOLERA | OCTOBER 2025 | 39 SUPPORT OUR TROOPS VETERAN ASSISTANCE FLAG BRIGADE Billy (Mitch) Mitchell is a resident and Veteran who has voluntarily worked with individuals and the Veterans Administration to assist Veterans in obtaining benefits.
