4 | LIFE IN SOLERA | OCTOBER 2025 | Curb Appeal Feature Design Review Committee Your Irrigation System Have you checked your sprinklers lately? Is water running off your yard and spilling into the street? Do you have a broken sprinkler that's gushing water? Is there a patch of your lawn that appears to be dying? How often do you water, and do you know how to adjust your irrigation timer? If you find yourself unable to answer these questions, consider asking a friend or your gardener for assistance. Mastering your irrigation system could save you money in the long run. Due to our dense clay soil, it's advisable to water twice a day. If you plan to water for 10 minutes, split that time into two sessions, with the second session scheduled an hour later. This method allows the soil to absorb moisture more effectively, potentially reducing the amount of water that runs into the street. Watering for more than six minutes at a time tends to result in runoff, exacerbating this issue. A highly-effective approach is to water before 6 am. Keep in mind that runoff could also be caused by overwatering from neighbors a few houses away. When multiple yards are over watered, it leads to street deterioration, creating rough surfaces as water seeps through small cracks and erodes the asphalt. When the street resurfacing project begins, you'll be asked to turn off your sprinklers 48 hours prior to the commencement of the project and 12 hours at completion. This will help keep the streets dry during repairs, ensuring they can last another 20 years. By collaborating with us, you'll help protect our investment in the infrastructure and prevent unnecessary expenses related to maintenance. Thank you for your cooperation!
