FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2025 53 The African American Cultural Club has awarded its first-ever scholarship to Saniyah Mykele Towner, a recent graduate of Palm Springs High School. This scholarship recognizes Saniyah's academic achievements and her unwavering dedication to community advocacy. Throughout high school, Saniyah was dedicated to speaking on behalf of African American students who were too often overlooked and unheard. Her fearlessness took her voice to the highest levels of local governance, speaking before Palm Springs City Hall as well as her High School Board meetings. Her mission was to confront the ongoing systemic discrimination against the Black students in her school. From a lack of representation in the school's curriculum, the pervasive use of racial slurs, to the reality of the school-to-prison pipeline, Saniyah's courage and clarity brought these difficult topics into the open, demanding accountability and change on the part of School Board officials. Saniyah is now attending Texas Southern University, a historically Black college in Houston, where she is majoring in Political Science. This major helps her pursue her passion for economic justice and social reforms. As Saniyah says, "Higher education is more than just a personal goal; it is a powerful tool for change." The AACC believes in the power of education and sees its scholarship program as a way to invest directly in the future of its college-bound grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The AACC is committed to making these awards for generations to come. AACC Event(s): Jazz Under the Stars will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11. This free event is exclusively for Four Seasons residents. Save the date! This year's Holiday Party is Saturday, Dec. 13. We will be announcing ticket sales sometime this month, so be on the lookout! The next monthly meeting is on Monday, Oct. 6 at 6 pm in The Lodge Game Room.
