| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2025 | 11 Although we hear reports at the monthly Master Board meetings, there is always the need to repeat, restate, review information — especially as new residents arrive regularly. So, welcome here to all! The interest this time is to recognize the intense work underway here in OHCC — so much so that landscape subcommittees are working to address some important and enriching landscape matters along with Operations and Maintenance teams. One matter is "aging" — yes, like us — many plants once young and thriving here are aging out. This means replacement may be essential — especially if at a focal point. One recent area (three others underway) is the Canon Road Trail where more than 26 aged out plants — some grown to bushes — were removed. It now looks clean and clear, ready for new plantings - coming. Be aware! Yet, new plantings bring forth new challenges in our new age! What on earth does this mean? This means climate change requires our attention to water and fire-wise approaches, i.e., the right 'plant', i.e., choice, at the right 'place', i.e., spot at the right time or as we say, "the 3 Rs"! Two past Landscape Committee articles have begun to send forth info to get attention on plantings in "defensible spaces," creating buffer zones and there is more to come. At the same time, another subcommittee is working to update the OHCC Plant Palette. Once complete it will be made available to all and posted on the website. So returning to the 3 Rs, the picture at right shows a beautiful spot that has been growing for the past three to four years — elsewhere. It is in 90 percent shade with regular light from open roof top and indirect light from sun when available. It is a peaceful spot. Let peace — shady or sun — continue to bring us joy if we know how to practice the 3 Rs. Landscape Committee Ask about our OHCC discount!
