Written by Marshall Kelsa and Jeannie Critcheld Yiddish Club As the Yiddish Club had "Yiddish Bingo" at the last meeting, a history of the word Bingo is interesting. Bingo was started in the 16th century in Italy. It arrived in America in the early 20th century. e name Bingo came about in a funny way. When an Italian man was supposed to yell "beano," he yelled Bingo by mistake thus bingo came to be. Books written by Ocean Hill authors were donated as prizes. Books by Drs. Sandy and Marty Sundell, Stan Katz, Dee Wardell, Laura Yotter and Dr. Joel Batzon. Of course, cash was added from the Yiddish Club. Don Kent and Marv Jaee manned the white board, and Arnie Wallins checked bingos from the oor. Also, thank you Bingo Club for lending us your president, Adele Seisel, to be our caller. Lots of folks took home prizes. Although it may seem early, we would like to remind you that our Deli Luncheon will be on Dec. 14. e entertainment will be the Jewish men's choir. And don't forget our October meeting on Oct. 27. e program has not been decided yet and I stress, denitely don't forget our Deli lunch in December. As always, our food Marvin and Lorraine Steinman handle the food at every occasion and does a great job. Written by Selma Leighton
