58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2025 | POP Tennis POP Tennis, formerly known as Paddle Tennis, is a fun, fast sport that can be enjoyed by people at all fitness levels. Though played on a smaller court, with a different paddle, and 20 percent deflated tennis balls, POP Tennis is otherwise scored and regulated like traditional tennis. POP Tennis is played on the courts to the left of the Main Clubhouse usually on Thursday mornings from 8 to 10 am (fall/winter hours). Additionally, there is a group that plays Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5 pm. People are free to come and go as their schedules permit. Hours are subject to change, so it is best to check the bulletin board located at the courts for current play times. All are welcome and there are always friendly folks to teach beginners the game! Our annual Tennis Club tournaments took place in October, featuring Mixed Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Men's Doubles. Trophies were awarded during the Octoberfest celebration. Photos of these tournaments and the trophy winners are available on the Sun Lakes Tennis Club Facebook page. On Sat., Nov. 1, starting at 8 am, we gather for our First Saturday Monthly Mixed Doubles Mixer. All Sun Lakers are welcome to drop in. All skill levels are encouraged. Tennis balls are provided. Additionally, every Tuesday at 8 am, Sun Lakers are invited to join the mixed doubles drop-in session led by Carl Miller. Finally, the Tennis Club will host its annual Turkey Shoot on Sat., Nov. 22. We'll start with brunch at 8 am followed by the Turkey Shoot at 9 am. Everyone in Sun Lakes is invited to both events. Advance registration might be required for the brunch. The Turkey Shoot involves purchasing tickets for chances to stroke serves at targets to win pumpkin pies, turkeys, and other goodies. One target features a club member dressed in a turkey costume.
