54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2025 In September, we attended a show at the Yucaipa Performing Arts Center. Chipper Lowell, a comedian born into a traveling- circus family, was the performer. It didn't go unnoticed by the comedian that the ladies in the front row were wearing red hats or fascinators. We knew sooner or later he would jest with one or more Divas, and he did, as predicted. First, he singled out Lady Scarlet, then he picked Queenie, followed by Sugar Mama. His good-natured humor added to the fun. Some people believe in magic — do you? Chipper is also a masterful magician, and his tricks were very convincing. In his act, he uses storytelling and humor to draw the audience in. For the Divas, the fun started before the show with greetings, posing for pictures, and catching up on conversations. We're already making exciting plans for our October event — witches! ~ Irma Romero, (626) 733-3019, Irmabsromero@gmail.com Life After Loss "Balancing the Needs of the Season" As the holidays approach, many people dread their arrival. Whether celebrated as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, Ramadan, or Kwanza, seasonal celebrations are difficult for those who have experienced memories with their departed loved one. Although there is no magic emotional formula, there are some healthy guideposts that can be considered. 1. Accept e Nature of Reality The approaching season is a factual reality. Denying that truth or pretending otherwise will only bring heartache. Try to avoid being reactive where you are "guilted into attending an event" or even outright "cancel" the holidays. Instead, thoughtfully, ahead of time, consider your need for solitude and grieving (boundaries) with some planned social activities. 2. Practice Self-Care It is vital to take care of yourself, especially when there are extra demands and stress. Take stock of actions that help to keep you regulated, distractions that can bring a moment of calm or personal rituals that can help create steadiness. 3. Plan Ahead and Set Boundaries Decide if you can handle past responsibilities and expectations as they once were. Inform others you appreciate their understanding and f lexibility. Family members may need to manage their own expectations around certain traditions and be f lexible and creative with new alternatives. Above all, it's important to be gentle with yourself and the needs of your heart. By thinking ahead, you can anticipate what you might need and minimize unnecessary pain. 4. Remember Your Community. Share your plans with valued family and friends and let them know in advance of changes in your emotional boundaries and holiday routines. Educate them. Make specific plans and obtain the support you need. The Life After Loss Group is about "people helping people" who have encountered any form of grief/loss in their life. Should you desire a deeper understanding of a "life after loss," we invite you to join us. Unless otherwise notified, we meet the first and third Mondays of each month from 1 to 3 pm in RCN Activity Room #3. All information is kept confidential. If you would like to join the group, please text/call Byron Thomsen beforehand at (909) 936-7097 or email him at byron.thomsen@ yahoo.com. ~ Byron omsen Crown Divas Four Seasons
