Each TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meeting begins with a pledge: "I am a responsible person. I know I have what it takes to reach my weekly goals. I know when to say 'yes.' I know when to say 'no' to temptations that are placed before me. I remind myself that no food can control me. That I have the power to overcome obstacles … to achieve a healthier life. I've got this!" In October, we hosted a salad party where each member brought two items for the salad bar. We had a variety of over 30 items. Each person brought two-pint containers filled with fresh veggies. Once filled, these jars made a delicious lunch. Two of our programs this month included a review of the "Real Life: The Hands-on Pounds-off Guide," our TOPS bible. It helps us understand the food and nutrients that make up our daily meals and snacks. The foods we eat contain essential nutrients that our bodies need. We are working on eating healthier. You may find that a group like TOPS can help you too. We meet on Tuesday at 8:30 am in the Ballroom. The City of Beaumont will have a parade in the morning, saluting veterans. We had two vehicles in the 20th anniversary parade — one trailed the horses to safeguard the trailing pick-up man who had a shovel and broom for his task. Any veteran who wants a tile on the Tile Tribute must attend our monthly meeting the fourth Thursday of each month at 10 am.
