Our Fall Social and Board election will be on Wed., Nov. 19 at 6 pm in the hall. Every club must hold a formal election to select officers for the 2026 year. Serving on the Board is a great opportunity to get involved in the OHCC community, plus it offers a chance to shape the future of the Swim & Wellness club. Do you have some thoughts about improving the pool atmosphere? Or maybe you have some expertise and ideas in the wellness area. We need you! Contact nominating committee chairperson Robin Bleeker at rbleeker53@gmail.com to explore the possibilities for yourself or to suggest someone you know who would make a good candidate. The actual election takes just a few minutes. Then we'll enjoy a light supper, FREE to members, and have a chance to socialize with our fellow pool lovers. Watch for an email with all the details but mark your calendar now so you don't forget! Reservations for morning lap swimming can be made seven days a week from 6 to 8:45 am. Each OHCC resident may make three reservations per week. Download the app at ohccclubhouse.skedda. com/booking. Please remember to CANCEL your reservation if you discover you cannot be there. Additionally, the lane lines are put in the pool five evenings per week at 7 pm - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. On the other two nights (Thursday and Sunday), the pool vacuum is put in place. Our September wellness presentation was given by Phil Topar, lap swimmer extraordinaire and all-around nice guy. Phil was an All-American swimmer in college, then started his career as a full- time lifeguard, and worked his way up to become Captain and then Battalion Chief for L.A. County. He managed this group, which is the largest professional lifeguard association in the world. Phil told us all about his career, which included saving around 300 people. He even earned the Medal of Honor for a particularly harrowing save. Ever heard of the TV show Baywatch? A friend of Phil was the creator of that program and Phil became the inspiration for the character played by David Hasselhoff. He was even an extra in a few scenes and the technical director for some of the lifesaving stories. Phil had lots of memorabilia to share with us about his career and lifesaving in general, as well as some "behind the scenes" Baywatch scoop. Thank you, Phil, for a most interesting presentation! Written by Sara Stewart, Club VP Swim & Wellness Club 42 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2025 | Phil Topar explains one of his heart- rending rescues Phil in his "Baywatch" days His favorite place, the pool!
