Happy holidays! Whatever holiday you celebrate — Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanza (and probably a few I am unaware of) — I wish each of you a happy and joyful holiday season with family and the people you love. Our next meeting and support group will be on Thurs., Dec. 18 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. This month the educational segment will be, "Memory Loss Isn't The Only Sign Of Dementia." This group is open to ALL caregivers. It's free and there is no membership fee. Just free knowledge for you to absorb. We are here to help you. Come share and learn! Don't forget our program in the Arts & Crafts Room. We entertain your loved one while you attend the meeting. We are a group of loving and capable volunteers who play games, do exercises, and just about anything to keep your loved one happy while you attend the meeting. Thank you so much to the groups Fusion and Pizzaz for entertaining last month. We are so thankful that they share their talent with us. This month we welcome Lloyd Friedman who is new to entertaining our group. We are looking forward to his visit. If you have any questions, would like to learn more about Memory Loss, or would like reading material that we can loan you, call Diane at (951) 765-7460, Doug at (360) 840-5559, or me Anne at (951) 845- 8700. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2025 | 45 To join the Dog Owners' Group, call or text Joan Burke at (310) 710-7611 with your name, phone number, and email address. We will add you to the mailing list and you will receive the monthly newsletter. The newsletter will give you interesting stories, fun dog facts, and best of all, the monthly activities and get togethers for the group. Stay in touch with the D.O.G. Newsletter. Yes, we are OFFICIAL! The Genealogy club has been getting together each month to collaborate on research strategies and share our own family histories. Our members have decades of experience in their genealogical collection, and some have been featured on television. Our most recent meetings discussed Newspapers.com and finding your relatives using cemetery searches. At our last meeting, club member Charlene Fink shared her family's history working on the railroad. Her many pictures and memorabilia were presented to the group on a tabletop tri-fold seen in this picture, while Charlene and her husband recalled stories of four-hour trips to Chicago on the train when they were children. Could you imagine your children or grandchildren doing that today? The best part was a beautifully preserved conductor's hat that she modeled for the group (see photo at right). Did you know your old recipes can be a rich source of genealogical information? Original family recipes share your family's story in a way other documents can't. Our meeting in December is about family and food. Bring your laptop and a favorite family recipe then tell or perhaps show a photo of who the recipe is from. Join the Genealogy Club in preserving and possibly re-creating Sun Lakes family food traditions. Our club meets once a month on Sunday afternoons. Our December meeting will be on Sun., Dec. 14 at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. For more information or to join the club, email Rob Thomas at rthomasma@yahoo.com.
