6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2025 | A 2025 RECAP By Janis Rice, EPAP PIO 2025 was a good year for Sun Lakes Country Club. Let's look back on how well we did. In January, EPAP held its annual Open House. Residents were invited to see where the Emergency Operations Command center is located, see the radio stations, first aid supplies, and equipment that will be used during an emergency. We really do exist. Also, in January, Riverside EMD held a CERT class for 20 Sun Lakes residents. Each participant that completed this 20-hour class received a certificate in basic disaster response skills, which will be vital to our community. April was Volunteer Appreciation Month. The EPAP Executive Team, Master Board, and FSR Administration recognized 100+ volunteers who make up the EPAP teams in each District. Along with a lot of good food and good company, each attendee received an EPAP hat and lots of appreciation. June and July gave us a bit of a scare. On June 29 at 3:10 pm, a fire started near the Wolfskill Truck Trail and Old Banning Idyllwild Road. On June 30, the fire was out of control, which led Cal Fire to issue a Level 2 (Set) evacuation warning for over 50 percent of Sun Lakes. Residents prepared and waited. Then, on July 2, the Level 2 evacuation warning was lifted, thanks to the persistent effort and support of our first responders. This was a wake-up call for all of us. So, at the July EPAP 101 Workshop, we learned more about the apps Watch Duty and Genasys Protect and what evacuation zone we live in. Also in July, EPAP was on duty for the SLCC Fourth of July festivities. Our Radio Comms Unit patrolled the parade route, and the FAST team had a first aid tent set up for the bumps and scrapes that happened during the event. In October, Sun Lakes participated in the annual California ShakeOut Drill. We held trainings and workshops to make sure everyone was ready for the earthquake drill. On 10/16 at 10:16 am, residents were asked to place yellow cards in a front facing window to indicate they were safe. This year, 58 percent of us participated. This is better than last year, but still not great. Throughout the year, the EPAP Team provided informational workshops, training sessions, and updates to help Sun Lakes be prepared for an unforeseen emergency. EPAP's goal is to make sure the residents of Sun Lakes Country Club are ALWAYS ready for the unexpected. We can only be successful if the residents are interested and involved. The EPAP Team has openings for their Executive Team and in each District. It may not be fun, like the craft club or ICC, or exciting like the Safety Committee, BUT when an emergency arises, we rely on all our EPAP Volunteers to support and direct their neighborhoods. If you are interested or would like more information please contact Janis Rice, EPAP PIO at j.e.rice1954@gmail.com. Let's make sure 2026 is a wonderful year for all of Sun Lakes. REMEMBER… BEING PREPARED WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. EPAP ANIMAL RESCUE GROUP We meet at 10 am in the Multipurpose Room on the third Monday of the following five months each year: September, November, January, March, and May. We strive to bring interesting and informative guest speakers to our meetings to help you keep your animals safe and healthy.
