| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2025 | 9 We know this is important to our homeowners/residents and we are committed to helping you to be informed. Our golf course superintendent oversees the chemicals used on our golf course and Master (shared) landscape areas. A weekly report of when and where chemicals will be applied is listed in the hall near the reception desk at the clubhouse, the HOA building near the front door, and the OHCC website. For more specific information, please contact our Landscape Operations Director, Kathy Guzman, at the HOA office: (760) 758-7080. All spraying is planned between the hours of 6:30 am and 3:00 pm but may vary depending on the weather conditions or sprayer availability. Because the golf course receives most of these chemicals, it is closed on Thursdays for applications and maintenance. Some of these chemicals require personal protective equipment because of the f luidity of the product (long sleeve shirts, long pants, waterproof gloves, must wash hands after application) Following is a list of the active ingredients and where they are used: • Glufosinate-Ammonium: Used in our Master areas, and the golf course. The EPA has concluded that this chemical is safe when used as directed and does not cause cancer. • Indaziam: Used in our Master areas, and the golf course. It is a pre-emergent used for grassy weed control. There is no evidence that it causes cancer. • HALOSULFURON-METHYL: Used in the Master areas, and the golf course. It is a Nutsedge weed killer, low in toxicity by the oral, dermal, and inhalation routes with a slight skin and eye irritation, safe for dogs and children. • IRON PHOSPHATE: "Sluggo," kills snails and slugs and is used in both the golf course and the Master areas. Safe for children and dogs because it is in a powder form. • Trinexapac-Ethyl: Used only on the golf course, it is a plant growth regulator used to reduce mowing frequency and strengthen turf grass. Applied through foliar spray. Treated areas should not be entered without footwear until sprays have dried out. • Methiozolin: Used only on the golf course. Pre- and post-emergence weed control. Bottles should be kept out of children's reach. ~ Peggy Goodman Landscape Committee
