26 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2025 | Newbies is the official welcoming committee for OHCC, and our mission is simple: to help you feel right at home. Moving into a new community can be both exciting and overwhelming, and that's where Newbies step in. We host quarterly potlucks designed to bring together new and established residents in a relaxed, social setting where connections are made and friendships blossom. Ocean Hills Country Club is often described as a year-round summer camp for adults. With 40 official clubs and many special interest groups, there's truly something for everyone. Whether your passion is golf, racquet sports, swimming, bocce ball, crafts, music, billiards, mahjong, or card games, you'll find your niche here. This month, we would like to offer a warm welcome to newbies Craig and Deborah Edwards. Hailing from Ojai, California, the Edwards moved to OHCC in June 2025 to be closer to their kids. They looked at numerous homes in Orange County and Oceanside, but it was love at first sight with OHCC. "The orange front door spoke to me," quipped Deborah. Craig explains, "It checked all the boxes." Craig grew up in Santa Barbara, California, and lived many years in Los Gatos, California. He has an everlasting love of tennis and played in high school, college and outside tournaments. He is a sports fanatic and for years was extensively involved with his son's Little League baseball. Before retiring, Craig was a "drug dealer." He graduated from the University of the Pacific with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and was licensed in both Nevada and California. He owned an independent retail pharmacy in Santa Barbara for a short time and practiced pharmacy in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years before moving south to Ojai, California. He was a member of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Inc. in college and was involved with local pharmacy organizations throughout his career. Deborah grew up in Kentucky and received a Bachelor of Journalism degree with emphasis on advertising from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Her experience includes working for local newspapers and radio stations and local government. Most recently in Ojai, she volunteered for numerous non-profit causes including the local hospital, tennis tournament, music festival and other charitable organizations. Deborah enjoys planning parties. Craig enjoys attending parties. You may find them on a novice pickleball court or playing shuffleboard or billiards. Deborah notes she's "trying to learn" to play bridge and loves water exercise classes, reading, photography, theater, flower arranging, volunteering and more. Please join us at the next Newbies potluck on Sat., Dec. 13 from 10:30 am to 1 pm in Abravanel Hall. Please RSVP by Dec. 3 to ohccnewbies@gmail.com. Remember, life is better when shared with friends. Sincerely, Lynn Bible and Rosemary Bray, Newbies Co-Leaders Newbies Deborah & Craig Edwards As we begin a new season for the Save the Monarch Butterf ly Club, we are honored and deeply grateful to continue serving as your Board. Our mission has always been clear — to protect, nurture, and celebrate Monarch butterf lies, to maintain the beauty and health of our Sanctuary Garden, and to bring our community together through shared purpose and friendship. Over the past year, our club has weathered challenges and changes. Yet through it all, the spirit of compassion and commitment that launched this effort in 2021 still thrives. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, the Sanctuary continues to f lourish — a living symbol of hope, transformation, and renewal right here in Ocean Hills. Now, as new neighbors join our community and familiar friends return, we warmly invite everyone — whether longtime members or those just discovering us — to be part of the next chapter of the Save the Monarch Butterf ly Club. Your membership dues directly support the garden's upkeep: planting milkweed and nectar f lowers, maintaining irrigation, and ensuring a healthy habitat for butterf lies and pollinators throughout the year. By joining or renewing your membership, you're not just supporting a garden — you're helping to preserve a vital ecosystem, educate our neighbors, and strengthen the fabric of our community. Together, we can make Ocean Hills a model for how one neighborhood can make a difference for the environment and each other. Wishing you a joyful holiday season, and we look forward to seeing and meeting you on Do Dues Day, Jan. 10, 2026! Our dues will remain the same at $15 per person. Rona Cole, President; Dorothy Miller, Vice President; Diane Hillman, Treasurer; Janis Musante, Secretary; Ruth Schafer, Director; Nancy Resnick, Director Save the monarch butterfly
