| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2025 | 43 Walkers and Hikers OHCC Walkers and Hikers took advantage of the delightfully warm weather at the beginning of November. We started the month with a great walk at Gonzales Canyon Torrey Pines Loop, followed by lunch at Bushfire Kitchen at La Costa. In mid-November, we enjoyed a walk of approximately two miles at Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad. If you have never been to Leo Carrillo Ranch, I highly recommend touring the Historic Park. Leo Carrillo was a well-known actor who starred in over 90 films but was probably most famous for his role as "Pancho" in the 1950s television series, The Cisco Kid. He converted the 27 acres into a weekend retreat, and entertained many celebrities, away from the glare of Hollywood. On both Saturday and Sunday, Leo Carrillo Ranch offers free tours, led by docents who enjoy taking visitors on a walking tour around the grounds where you can go into the different adobe houses and haciendas, horse stables and more. Since the club is for both walkers AND hikers, although we schedule plenty of nice walks (three miles or less, with very little or no elevation gain), we also make every effort to host at least two hikes a month for those who enjoy ascending and descending hills and want more than three miles. The hikers went to Clevenger South in Escondido, also known as "The Chairs," for a 4.6-mile hike with an elevation gain of 1181 feet. The South Clevenger trail has gained popularity due to two lawn chairs perched on a boulder that offer spectacular views of the San Pasqual Canyon. Our hikers worked up an appetite and rewarded themselves with a lunch at Hungry Hawk Vineyards & Winery. It wouldn't be November at OHCC without leading my annual walk at Buena Vista Park on Thanksgiving morning. What better way to burn off some calories in anticipation of the feast that we all were going to indulge in with friends and family a few hours later? Now that Thanksgiving is over, please mark your calendar for Sun., Dec. 14, between 5:30 and 7:30 pm. The OHCC Walkers/Hikers will have their 3rd Annual Christmas Lights Walk throughout numerous streets in OHCC. This year, we are adding Christmas caroling to our walk. If you want us to come to your doorstep and sing a Christmas Carol or Hanukkah song or two, we will add you to our walking route. If you would like to walk and carol with us, we welcome you to join us! Please sign up if you would like to walk. You can go to the calendar on our website to walk. If you want us to sing to you, please call or text Marla at (949) 295-1554 to be added to the list, and we will sing to you on Dec. 14. Please note that in last month's issue of OHCC Living, we mistakenly stated that our walk/caroling was on Dec. 16. The correct date is Dec. 14.
