| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2026 | 45 Arlene's Breakfast Club Happy Cookers We're starting the new year with the theme "soups that warm our hearts." Members will bring samples of different comfort soups that they've enjoyed on cold winter days, or anytime, really. Happy Cookers usually meets on the fourth Friday of each month at 11 am in the South Clubhouse, and new members are welcome anytime. We feature guest speakers, cooking demonstrations, outings, or samples of themed cooking provided by our members. Come to a meeting and check us out! Annual dues are $25, and your first meeting is free. For membership information, contact Barbara Elness at Barbed1951@aol.com. Happy New Year Sun Lakes! December's meeting was a joyful free-to- members holiday brunch featuring yummy breakfast foods, lively Christmas music courtesy of the Beaumont High School Band, Bob-the-Baker treats, and chatty socializing. An important aspect of the event was that the newly elected Garden Club Board Officers were officially installed for the 2026-2027 term. The five officers begin their term this month and are as follows: President, Barbara Maslowski; First Vice-President, Beverly Agner; Second Vice- President, Jan Flamming; Treasurer, Barbara Ball; and Secretary, Linda Kalb-Myers. We wish to thank them for their willingness to lead our remarkable club. Along with a new slate of officers, January is when membership renewals and the acceptance of new members officially start. Dues are only $20 a year. Carrying over from last year, we want to acknowledge more of our dedicated volunteers. As we enter the monthly meetings, our membership committee co-chairs, Sherry Case and Linda Powers, offer a gracious welcome to all, answer questions, and provide membership information to visitors. Mid-meeting, hospitality co- chairs, Dennise Pennington and Bonnie Jensen host a beautifully displayed table full of Bob-the-Baker treats. The tables are usually decorated with the theme of that month dictated by the season or holiday, but often just a joyful display. They arrange for the treats with Bob providing him with the month's theme so he can create, as always, something extraordinary. Bonnie and Dennise also coordinate with the restaurant staff each month and for our seasonal luncheons along with that event's chairperson. Many thanks to all four of you. This month we're looking forward to the return of one of our favorite speakers: Raphael, the owner of Cherry Valley Nursery in Beaumont. He always has an entertaining way of educating us. This time he's going to discuss the various and preferred methods of irrigation. If you are thinking of revamping your yard or garden, it's a great time of year to do so. Our President, Barbara Maslowski, at (951) 845-9741 is always ready to answer your questions. If you have membership questions, please call one of our membership Co-Chairs: Linda Powers at (562) 400-0541 or Sherry Case at (951) 533-3584. Pat Pennington, at (951) 314-9229, loves to talk about vegetable gardening and is also happy to answer vegetable gardening questions. And if you have fruit tree(s) in need of picking, contact Joy Bailey at (951) 845-5540. The produce will go to local charities. Garden Club Arlene's Breakfast Club is a group of wonderful Sun Lakes ladies who enjoy a morning of fellowship and breakfast. We meet at 9 am in the Main Clubhouse Restaurant the second Thursday of each month. We have a variety of speakers on various topics and support our local veterans with donations. Our breakfast is a buffet for $20 including tax and tip. No dues, just pay for your meal. We must provide an accurate count to the Restaurant, so enough food is prepared. Please call Patti Donitini at (951) 769-3271 for more information and to RSVP.
