| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2026 | 43 Tending Your Genealogy Family Tree Following December's exploration of how food and family traditions enrich our understanding of the past, January offers us a chance to refocus on the foundational skills that help those stories take root. Think of your family tree as a garden. Every research question begins with planting a seed, starting with a name, a point of interest, or a mystery that sparks your curiosity. To help that seed grow, we water it with careful study and steady attention. Along the way, we examine the roots, checking our sources, verifying details, and ensuring every branch rests on solid evidence. Ultimately, we admire the fruit and f lowers: the stories we uncover and the connections we make. This month we'll get back-to-basics with FamilySearch Wiki, focusing on strengthening the roots of our research. The FamilySearch Wiki can guide you to record collections, historical background, and location-specific tips. Best of all, FamilySearch.org is completely free for anyone to use. It's a fantastic resource for both experienced researchers and those just beginning their family history journey. On that note, our Genealogy Club warmly welcomes people who are BRAND NEW to genealogy. You don't need experience to join, only curiosity. Our members truly enjoy helping beginners get started, answering questions, and sharing the joy of discovering one's family story. We strive to be a friendly, supportive, and helpful community for all. Our club meets once a month on Sunday afternoons. Our January meeting will be held on Sun., Jan. 11 at 6 pm in the South Clubhouse. For more information or to join, email Rob Thomas at rthomasma@yahoo.com. Genealogy NEW GROUP!
