52 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2026 | Table Tennis/Ping Pong Coming from 2025 into 2026 we are blessed to have benefited from not just an excellent physical activity, but also the equanimity and emotional well- being afforded by this sport. The joy of playing this game and the sense of accomplishment after mastering a new skill feels good, like a shot of dopamine. Who doesn't feel good after scoring a winning point? Who doesn't feel respect and admiration for a shot well-placed by an opponent? Especially if the ball has a "mind of its own" and shoots off in an unexpected direction, amid groans, grunts and spontaneous laughing. So, how could these seniors play so far above their skill level? Believe it. It happens. And it's hilarious fun. Table tennis is more than just game. It's a gateway to improved health, happiness, and meaningful social connections. As we embrace the New Year, we are setting our sights on new goals, rekindling our love for the sport, and celebrating the joy of being a part of a dynamic senior community. Happy New Year from SLCC Table Tennis Club! Come on in, bring a friend, we have plenty of tables, paddles, and balls. We play with anybody and adhere to all the principles of sportsmanship. POP Tennis POP Tennis, formerly known as Paddle Tennis, is a fun, fast sport that can be enjoyed by people at all fitness levels. Though played on a smaller court, with a different paddle, and 20 percent deflated tennis balls, POP Tennis is otherwise scored and regulated like traditional tennis. POP Tennis is played on the courts to the left of the Main Clubhouse usually on Thursday mornings from 8 to 10 am (fall/winter hours). Additionally, there is a group that plays Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5 pm. People are free to come and go as their schedules permit. Hours are subject to change, so it is best to check the bulletin board located at the courts for current play times. All are welcome and there are always friendly folks to teach beginners the game! Paddles and balls are provided too. For more information or to express a desire to be on a decision-making committee, contact Carl Miller at (951) 512-3131. Hope you'll POP in! Members of the Sun Lakes Tennis Club met in December at our fourth Quarterly Meeting to elect our four-member Executive Board for 2026. Those Board members are: President, Kim Jensen and Vice-President, Michele Walter (pictured with Michele on the left); Treasurer, Peggy Huetten; and, Secretary, David Nethercott. The Club also recognized Michele Walter as our Year 2025 Member of the Year. On Sat., Jan. 3, the first activity of the New Year will be our first Saturday morning Drop-In Mixer, starting at 8 am. Everyone who wants to take part is welcome. All skill levels enjoy this first Saturday of the month event. Tennis balls are provided. For information contact David Nethercott at (315) 415-2408. Membership Registration Forms for the New Year are available at the entrance to the South Clubhouse. All returning members and new members are urged to register ($10 per person) as soon as possible. Why not make it your 2026 resolution to return to tennis? If you are new to the game, we who play the game are eager to assist in making tennis a part of your lifestyle here in Sun Lakes. Tennis
