I have a love-hate relationship with January. I no longer need to worry about sprinklers, tomato worms, and fertilizer. But I hate the cold. Even the mild So Cal winters we experience. However, January is a great time to dream and even plan your next project for your yard and the outside of your home. Now is an excellent time to schedule a painter while they have openings available in the spring. It is even possible to find a gardener who is willing to discuss major projects rather than tell you that they are too busy to even consider taking on new projects. If you are not sure what you might want to do and need some guidance about what can be done feel free to reach out to the Architectural Review Committee. We can advise you if your dream project is allowed under our guidelines and/or help you find an alternative that is allowed that will still meet your dreams and needs. Now is a good time to determine what tree trimming may be needed or if a replacement tree might be a better choice. Many of the older homes in our community are beginning to need some repairs. Identify the issues and schedule needed work to be done. ARC meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month in the RCN Conference Room at 8:30 am. We would like to see you there, answer your questions and process your application. ~ Steve Cooley, (801) 815-5302, cooleyaudit@gmail.com 24 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2026 Architectural Review Committee The committee made an inspection walk of the eastern Edison Easement and the Sam's Canyon Meadow on Dec. 3. The members noted both areas were the cleanest we've seen. Our next inspection walk will be on Jan. 7 at 8 am. We will convene at the Potrero Creek Trail monument to walk the Trails A and B loop. We'll return to The Lodge to hold our monthly meeting. ~ Howard Ochi, Conservancy Committee Chair, hmochi47@hotmail.com Conservancy Ad hoc Wildlife Mitigation Committee Concerned about insurance rates? Come to a town hall meeting to find answers. Skyrocketing insurance rates, cancellations and the California Fair Plan, that many of our residents have been told they must join, are hot topics of discussion today. Confusion and misinformation abound and your Wildfire Mitigation Committee has been busy searching for answers. We have had a difficult time getting an independent speaker to cover these issues, and fortunately in our discovery process, we watched a webinar organized by our State Senator Rosilicie Ochoa-Bogh. The webinar panelists include the California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, representatives from United Policyholders (representing consumers), the Personal Insurance Federation of California (the trade organization for insurance companies), and the California FAIR Plan (insurance-of- last-resort). We know that we could never hope to have such a stellar panel for our town hall meeting, so we did the next best thing and requested access to the senator's webinar. She not only gave us an unedited version that will be accompanied by a couple of her staff members to hear your concerns, but also requested a speaker from the Department of Insurance. Judith PiƱa, from that department, will also be here to answer your questions. A request from a senator does not go unanswered. The committee was personally so impressed by the panelists on this webinar who presented explanations, from all viewpoints, as to why and how our insurance predicament has become so problematic. I found it engaging and enlightening. Join us Jan. 22 at 1 pm in the Ballroom to learn from the best authorities exactly what caused the current crisis and how they intend to deal with it. You are always welcome to bring your suggestions, concerns, and comments to the Ad Hoc Wildfire Mitigation Committee meeting on the first Thursday of the month at 1 pm in the RCN. Because of the holiday, this month our meeting is on Jan. 6. ~ Cathy Goldsmith, cathyhg13@yahoo.com
