FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2026 27
The Canine Corral was only an idea in 2016 when a group of
homeowners formed the Dog Owner Group.
Lynn Jahnke was one of those original dog owners who desired
a place for their dogs to be free to play with their friends. They
decided to name the area the Canine Corral. After much research
and discussion for a potential location and management of such an
area, they obtained Board approval to form an Ad Hoc Off Leash
Rule Committee in July of 2018. Between then and 2020, additional
research regarding location and governing rules for the Corral were
accomplished. In February 2020, the Board approved the merger
of the Ad Hoc Off-Leash Rules Committee into the Canine Corral
Council.
Then as of November 2023, the Board changed the name to the
Canine Corral Committee. Lynn has spent nine years on these
committees as secretary for both. Her knowledge of the history
has been invaluable to us, and we are sad to see her leave. She said
she has enjoyed her time working with all the past and current
members with the common goal of creating a safe environment for
our dogs to play off-leash.
Once again, we have formed a new ad hoc group to update the
rules of the Canine Corral and possibly consider other locations
with better parking facilities. As our pet parents have aged, walking
up the hill has become more difficult and the slope of the existing
Corral harder to navigate. Also, many people have expressed a
desire to have a grassy surface. The Board will send a survey out
later this month to find out what you want in a dog park. Even if you
do not have a dog, please take a few minutes to read it and respond.
Our meetings are the first Thursday of the month at 10 am in
the RCN Conference Room. We are looking for new members who
would be willing to contribute one hour a month for their precious
fur baby. ~ Barbara Morton, Co-Chairman, (559) 269-0908
