| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2026 | 9 Current Street Captains, Auxiliaries and interested residents are invited to join us Jan. 26 in The Lodge at 9:30 am to "Brain Storm/ Explore" ideas to make Four Seasons Hemet CERT more active, relevant and rewarding to participants going forward as we prepare and practice how to respond to natural and man made disasters and emergencies. What is CERT? The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a volunteer-based program established in 1993 under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National CERT Program, administered by the Citizen Corps. It trains community members in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, medical operations, and team organization to assist themselves, their families, and neighbors during emergencies when professional responders may be delayed. Why participate in CERT? In a major, regional disaster city and county first responders will be overwhelmed. We as a community and as individuals will have to take of ourselves and our neighbors. CERT, through its training and ongoing practice, prepares us to respond. How can you participate in CERT? If you have skills as a first responder, in the medical, computer or communication fields, or just want to help yourself and your neighbors soon you will be able to register with Four Seasons CERT on our new website that we will announce at the Jan. 26 meeting. Come join us and we'll help you get started. DO NOT use FSCERT.ORG, it has been HIJACKED! Please delete it if you have it bookmarked. Emergency Preparedness Library Committee Happy New Year 2026 from your volunteer Library Committee! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are already back to regular library visits to see all the recent donations typically received during this time of year. Perhaps YOU were one of our generous residents who donated some of your well-read and loved "older" (but still dated 2016 and newer) favorites to make room on your shelves for all the brand-new books you received over the holidays. The Library Committee, in communication with the Four Seasons Homeowners Association Board of Directors, is once again exploring ways to make space for more books. This time, we're considering building new bookshelves/cases on the right hand wall. Yes, that means covering over the mural that's currently there. The current cabinets housing the paperbacks inside the top and providing storage under the existing mural are likely to either disappear or be remodeled to display books. Please note that we are conscious of how challenging it can be to explore books sitting on bottom shelves. Bending over and getting on the floor and back up again become more difficult as we age; that's simply a fact of life. It's why you will soon be seeing more empty bottom shelves around the room. But that's another reason why the committee wants more bookcases, in general. If you have thoughts about this or anything else library-related, please share them with us in the library's Suggestion Box. The box is located on the end table near the entrance to the library from The Lodge hallway. A quick reminder: I often find suggestions in the box requesting specific library books. Please be aware all the books in our library have been generously donated by YOU, our residents; we don't buy books. Also, note that the magazines in the library and the puzzles in the Computer Room are resident donations. We hope you took advantage of the Seasonal Puzzles bookcase section during the recent holidays and look forward to the seasonal days and celebrations to come. This month is scheduled to be enriched by another Resident Author's Talk on Jan. 22 at 2 pm in the Ballroom. We hope to have publicity pieces in the library and a poster on The Lodge hallway wall with further information. Come visit soon, Betty Crase
