28 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2026 | Woodchucks The Woodchucks hope that your Holidaze were happy and safe! By now we've all had a chance to make (and break) our resolutions. One resolution we hope you made — and kept — is to join the Woodchucks Woodworking Club. Even if you've never tried woodworking before, this is a great opportunity to use our clean and well-equipped shop (located by the Back Gate). Have a project you've been thinking about or a "honey-do" you've been putting off for years? Or perhaps a wooden toy you want to create for our annual Toy Drive, benefiting the children of Camp Pendleton? Our friendly Club Officers are always available for tutoring, support, or just to brainstorm with you, namely, Larry See, Scott Griffith, or Murf Haugen. Speaking of — what a successful Saturday we had at the OHCC Donation Drive-Thru Toy Drive! Along with the Woodchucks, we had support from the Sewing Club, the painting groups, the Veterans' Club, and the Chorale. Many Woodchuck members donated toys, checks, and gift cards, and once again we are humbled by your generosity. Our Woodchuck volunteers were terrific — we could not have succeeded without you! Thank you for your time, your enthusiasm, and your willingness to help. And thank you to those who volunteered to fill in the gaps where necessary — your readiness mattered. Holiday Stocking Hangers: Alan Belisle, Bob St. Laurent, Russ and Dorothy Owens, Kathy Moskovitz, Marcia Bruce, Sharron Seidenberg, Len Ambrosini, Larry See. Toy Display Set-Up Crew: Goldie Weis, Murf Haugen, Larry See, Dennis Lady, Larry Kummer, Greg Kusiak, Betsy and Tom Murphy, Scott Griffith. Flyer Tube-Stuffers: Kathy Moskovitz, Murf Haugen, Patty Coffey, Larry Kummer, Tom Murphy, Bill Jones, Ellen Kippel, David Levine, Bill Huyett, Scott Griffith, Tom Porter, Greg Kusiak. Toy Gatherers, Donation Collectors, Truck Loaders: Donna and Carmen Cook, David Hirsch, Kathy Moskovitz, Bill Huyett, Lynn Bible, Tom and Betsy Murphy, Ellen Kippel, Tom Porter, Patty and Greg Coffey, Murf Haugen, Larry See, Larry Kummer, Bob St. Laurent, Len Ambrosini, Scott Griffith, Mike Thornton. And last but never least, Greg Copeland. who filled in for SANTA! If you took lots of photos over the holidays, how do you share them? Here are some options. Sharing your photos from an iPhone has three easy ways - email, message, Airdrop. The easiest way is to start with the little square with the arrow. After you touch it, you will see a dozen ways to share a photo. The ones I use are Message, Email, and Airdrop. Message starts a text message with the photos plugged in. You add the recipient and any text. It just sends it, uncompressed. Videos get compressed when sent this way. Mail will ask you what size to send. If the email is too big it won't send it unless you choose a smaller size. "Large" works for Photo Club slide shows. "Full size" works best for printing a photo. AirDrop allows you to drop a photo (or a file) on someone else's phone or computer… Just tap on them and off it goes. BUT – you can set up your device to receive from anyone for ten minutes via Bluetooth in Settings/General/AirDrop. For years, AirDrop has only worked from one Apple device to another, but recently there has been a breakthrough. Certain Android devices (Google Pixel 10 series and later) with Quick Share can now work with AirDrop in both directions! For large photos or collections of photos that are too big for email (presumably on a computer): • Copy to a physical medium such as a jump drive or SD card and give it to the recipient. Be sure to label with your name so you can get it back. • Copy the photos to a Google Drive or Dropbox folder and share that folder with the recipient. This is what I do for things like OHCC Living magazine where they want larger size images. You can copy a link and allow access to anyone with the link, or you can use a sharing option for the specific folder. Note that photos tend to take up a lot of space, so be mindful of cleaning it up once the photos have been successfully shared. P.S. I find Google Drive easier to use than Dropbox and I get fewer calls for help. The Ocean Hills Photo Club is open to all residents. We meet monthly on the third Thursday in Lamia at 1 pm. Dues are $10/ year. Jim McDonough – 760-593-9994 – jamespmcdonough@gmail. com. Photography
