| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2026 | 31 Music Lovers Happy New Year Music Lovers! It's 2026 and we're off to a great start with music from our club. This is the first article I'm writing as Secretary (not president) of the club. It's a great feeling to know that our club is continuing on in the capable hands of Kris Bauer. It was a wonderful three years, but it made me realize I'm not as young and energized as I used to be. Our club is currently planning for our booth in the hall on Do Dues Day, Jan. 10. While we've offered our members an option to renew early by dropping their dues checks off with their renewal form at the front desk, we're always very happy when our members stop by to say hello. We'll be sporting a new banner and wearing Music Themed shirts and of course, offering treats, so you'll be able to spot us easily! Our club is continuing to sponsor music on Monday mornings at our Coffee House Monday performances. Mark your calendars and plan on coming to the Clubhouse every Monday at 10 am in the Atrium area by the bar. Make it a Clubhouse day: pick up your weekly activities sheet from the rack, grab some treats and coffee, meet up with friends to hear some great music and sign up at the desk for all the happenings you'll be attending this month and then stay for Chair Yoga. See? We're helping you to stay organized, healthy and in touch with your community. Look for upcoming news in our email updates and pick up the Music Lovers Club annual calendar at do dues day so you never miss an event. This year we'll be having Karaoke Night more often as well as summer and winter dinners, multiple music performances and other surprises you don't want to miss. Those of you who are reading this but are not members yet, we hope to see you at our booth on Jan. 10. If you want to come prepared, our dues are $10 annually and you can make your checks out to OHCC Music Lovers Club. Veteran Do Dues Dayers always have their checks ready when they come to sign up for clubs so they can make their rounds quickly! To our members celebrating birthdays this month, you have our warmest wishes for a fabulous birthday celebration! Enjoy your fresh start to both this glorious year, and to your next chapter of this wonderful life. Respectfully submitted by Debbie Cea Protect Yourself From Real Estate Scams. I want to share some quick but important advice to help you avoid becoming a victim of a real estate scam. Some agents may appear to represent you but act in their own interest instead. They might: • Limit showings or withhold outside offers. • Convince you that "no one wants your home." • Then offer to buy it themselves at a below-market price — only to remodel and resell it for a profit. This is a bait-and-switch tactic, and unfortunately, the seller (you) ends up losing valuable equity. Here's how to protect yourself: • Review your listing contract carefully. Make sure it requires all offers to be presented to you immediately — it's California law. • Prohibit your agent (or anyone tied to them) from buying your property. This removes conflict of interest. • Request showing feedback regularly. It keeps your agent accountable and ensures your home is being properly marketed. • Ask if your agent has any financial connection to potential buyers or investors. Transparency matters. Your home is one of your biggest assets. You deserve an agent who is loyal, transparent, and fully focused on getting you top dollar. Let's have a quick conversation about how I market and protect my clients' best interests. I'm happy to review your situation confidentially and make sure your sale is handled safely and successfully.
