38 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2026 | Bingo Bingo players, I am about to tell you that miracles do occur, good people and good will abound at OHCC and finally, Bingo will be getting NEW EQUIPMENT. Bingo was given an amazing donation of $20,000 to purchase Bingo equipment. THE DONATION – I was notified that the Village Voice, aka The Ocean Hills Journalism Club (TOHJC) Board of Directors, met and decided that they had funds they would like to donate to a club(s) within OHCC. Selma Leighton immediately raised her hand and told the story of Bingo limping along with equipment that is as old as some of our residents and likely has more ailments. Well, folks, this is where the miracle occurred, the TOHJC Board of Directors voted to give Bingo not $15,000 … not enough they said … $20,000 that will work. Shock and awe! Let's go shopping! If only it was that easy. All of a sudden, the brakes get put on and the paperwork starts. AGREEMENTS & MEETINGS – The process is complicated. TOHJC is giving $20,000 a tax-deductible donation from their 501c (3) to Bingo a 501c (7). All good and fine, but now, you must involve the Social Club, who oversees all OHCC clubs for compliance with IRS and government rules. Also, in the mix now, the Master Board. The Master Board must be notified of the donation and related purchase of new equipment and agree to accept the donation of new Bingo equipment. The Social Club needs to be sure that all fiduciary regulations are met, as well as transparency to be sure that the donated funds are properly managed and used. An agreement was signed, stating all parties would play nicely together, the equipment donation is graciously accepted, all funding and transparency issues resolved and accepted, and everyone has signed off. MANAGING EXPECTATIONS - The Bingo equipment committee has not completed their assessment of available equipment. When the committee has submitted their report with recommendations, the Bingo BOD will then order equipment. Think early spring…April, maybe… THANK YOU - The Bingo Board of Directors want to thank The Ocean Hills Journalism Club for their generous donation. You took our breath away. They are John Lesser, President, who has been a delight to work with, Julie Baumer, Ellen Baur, Selma Leighton, Betty Theel, and Karen Wexler. We also want to thank the Master Board and the Social Club Board for their guidance and acceptance of the donation. Party is coming soon. ~ Adele Siesel, Lynn Bible, Jeannine Ferrari, Suzanne Patten – Bingo Board of Directors
