Sleep is essential at every age, but as we grow older, getting a full, restful night can become more difficult. Many of us find ourselves waking frequently, rising too early, or lying awake for hours. While these changes are common, they don't have to be permanent. With the right strategies, better sleep is absolutely achievable. The Swim & Wellness Club is excited to welcome Dr. Ellen Lee to OHCC for a special presentation. Dr. Lee is with the UCSD Center for Healthy Aging, and she is an expert in the field of sleep research. She will be sharing her knowledge with us on Mon., Jan. 26 at 2:30 pm in Abravanel Hall. We are inviting the entire OHCC community to join us for this presentation. Sleep may naturally change with age, but persistent sleepless nights are not something you have to live with. Maybe Dr. Lee has just the advice that will work for you and help you restore restful, refreshing sleep! This event is FREE and open to all OHCC residents. Our November holiday party was enjoyed by many members. A short business meeting preceded the dinner. President Michael Gordon shared a recap of the year's high points, including three well- received wellness speakers and the July Swim Clinic. We made a special presentation to Sue and Frank Tanner, long-term supporters of the club. They became our first and only emeritus members with lifetime membership in the club. Then we held the election for 2026 officers. The new officers and their positions are Phil Topar, President; Sara Stewart, Vice President; Anita Simons, Secretary; and Patti Waterman, Treasurer. Many thanks to outgoing officers Michael Gordon and David Hirsch. We are grateful for your efforts for the club in 2025. Following the election, we enjoyed a delightful meal, complete with wine and topped off with pumpkin and apple pie. Food chairperson Carol Hirsch did another fabulous job of planning and facilitating the event. Thanks, Carol, for all of your efforts over the past several years. You will be missed! Stop at our Do Dues Day table on Sat., Jan. 10. Meet some of the club's board members and learn about plans for 2026. DDD is an easy way to join all of the clubs you might be interested in. You can join S & W anytime just by dropping off a check for $12 at the Clubhouse desk. Be sure to add a note with your contact information, especially email address and phone number.
