Actors Studio By Marsha Tobolski, 562-244-9223 And now for some medical advice that is simple – SING! In an article released by the BBC, the Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research says that one of the benefits of Christmas time is that people sing — for singing is surprisingly good for our health. In fact, the report stated, singing can help fight off disease and suppress pain. One research even reported that music can be used to help children and adults recover from brain injuries. But not just music. In particular, singing has been found to improve people's heart rate and blood pressure, but that "not all types of singing are equally beneficial." For example, it's group singing that "has been found to promote a greater level of psychological wellbeing than in solo singers," and that singing in groups has even been found to boost our immune function in ways that simply listening to the same music cannot. In was further noted that "Singing also represents a way of boosting general health as it has been shown to be an underrated workout comparable to a brisk walk." To sum it up: join the Colony Chorus! Enjoy the experience and as a bonus, research says we'll all benefit! Practice sessions for our spring concert (April 25-26) will begin Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 4 to 6 pm in the Annex. No audition is necessary. Just call Connie O'Brien, 619-322-0144, so we can have a folder of the music ready for you.
