32 | THE COLONY NEWS | JANUARY 2026 | It's a brand new year! And it's a great time to make new friends and not cook dinner, and our dinner on Monday, Jan. 12, is a perfect time to do both! We'll have chicken cordon bleu, or if you prefer, a vegetarian entrée or grilled chicken will be available by request. Please note this on your check. The checks for dinner this year are $23 (for members) and $26 for guests. You need to have your check (payable to Colony Singles) in the box at Reception no later than Monday, Jan. 5. If this will be your first time, your dinner price will be $15. Please let Paula Parra (number given below) know so we can have a greeter watch for you. Come join us! To cancel or change your dinner reservation, you must notify Paula Parra at 949-888-6550 by Jan. 5. It's also time to renew your membership: $25/yr. This is due no later than Feb. 9. To reduce confusion, please write a separate check for the dues. We look forward to seeing you at 5 pm in the Auditorium on Jan. 12. Dress up! BYOB, and bring money to participate in the 50/50 drawing, if you so desire. Colony Singles By Jan Foster Happy New Year to all! As we begin a new year, we have a chance to start fresh again or begin new activities that we have considered. I am thinking about how fortunate we are to live in a place that offers us so much. In the Colony, we can be entertained or we can entertain others. We can learn new skills and ideas, or we can share those skills and ideas. We have so many opportunities for personal growth and for friendship. And that is what our Ukulele Strummers group is all about. Check us out in the Annex every Friday at 1 pm. All you need to bring is your smile and a happy attitude. We have loaner ukuleles. For more information, please call me at the above number. Colony Strummers By Judy Moore, 949-468-7375 If you would like to try something new, our teacher, Mary Gasteiger, will be back from the holiday break and accepting new students starting Tuesday, Jan. 6. Beginner's class is taught from 4:30 to 5:15 pm, followed by more advanced from 5:15 to 6 pm. Classes are held in the Auditorium and are only $5 per class, with the first class free so you can "try before you buy." Don't worry about shoes; there will be clogging shoes available to borrow until you decide whether you want to buy your own. This is a fun class to learn how to clog and with no expectations for anyone to join the performance group. Clogging has taps on the shoes and is a form of American Folk Dance. It's a great way to exercise body and brain, and thus as studies have shown, it's a good tool in the fight against Alzheimer's and dementia. If you have questions, please call me at the number above.
