28 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2026 | Woodchucks Woodchucks are always busy with personal projects as well as projects around our community. For example, Woodchucks have completed a number of projects including repairing the name tiles on a resident's front wall as well as the repair of a resident's wooden giraffe statue, and erecting the Shell for the Chorale group's holiday performance to name just a few. Bill Huyet has taught himself how to use the wood lathe in the shop and has made several beautiful bowls for family gifts. Goldie Weiss and Murph Haugen are collaborating on a commemorative U.S. Marine Corps Wall hanger for Fling Golf clubs. Please join us in making memories and sawdust at the shop. If you missed the opportunity on Do Due Dues Day, you can find a membership application at our website, https://ohccwoodchucks. wixsite.com/ohcc-woodchucks or at the Clubhouse desk. Written by Larry See Once again, the Photo Club plans to venture out to the wilds of San Diego Zoo Safari Park, which offers free admission to seniors (65 and up) during the month of February. While admission to the park is free, parking is not. The website (https://sdzsafaripark.org/) says general parking is $20/day. Members of the Wildlife Alliance receive free parking, and we have several such members, so we may be able to avoid the parking fees. We'll plan to go on our regular meeting day, Thurs., Feb. 19. Members who can't go that day are welcome to go another day in February. If it rains on the 19th, we'll likely try another day. We will be trying to put together carpools. Connect with the club any time after Feb. 1 via ohccphotoclub@gmail.com to tell us whether you need a ride or can provide a ride and for how many people. We'll assemble in the overf low parking at around 8:15 am on Feb. 19 in the hope we can depart by 8:30 am. The park opens at 9 am. Each driver should collect contact info for their passengers to make sure everyone gets a ride home. Bring a hat and some water – Safari Park is warmer than OHCC. If you own a "proper" camera, this might be a good time to dust it off. A long lens is good for photos of the tigers, for example. Don't want to get too close. Bring a picnic lunch if you like or choose one of the restaurants in the park. Some of them are pricy. Mobility scooters are available on a first come first served basis near the entrance. The cost is $60/day. You are welcome to bring your own. We'll have a slideshow review of our work during our March meeting. New residents who have not been to Safari Park should jump on this opportunity. The Photo Club is open to all residents. Annual dues are $10.
