36 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2026 | Bocce plus pineapples equals wet courts. The atmospheric rivers, often named "pineapple express," has again stopped bocce play. In 2021, we lost 19 days of bocce to rained-on or f looded courts. January 2023 only had bocce play on 12 days. It was most readily seen in total bocces for the month at 43 and 2022 had 204 total bocces. As I write this, 2026 is looking to be very wet. And I hope the rain did not stop you from joining or renewing your membership at Do Dues Day. If you did not, there is still time to drop off your check at the front desk. Dues are still $12 per person, and you can order a new Bocce Club Badge, $13, at the same time. Do you have skills with excel? Do you like to write articles? Do you love leagues and tournaments? Is party planning something you always wanted to learn? Are you a leader wanting to get back to work by volunteering to be a club director or officer? If so, we have the perfect spot for you with the Bocce Club. Our goal is to have at least one trained backup for all the positions within the club to share the work and the fun of being an active club member. Don't hesitate to call Jackie or any board member to learn more. Your 2026 Officers are Jackie Crosby – (760) 390-2885, Mark Feinman – (323) 767-4485, Jean Meeks – (909) 801-9791, and Joann Bush, (303) 810-2019. Written by Jackie Crosby Bocce Every time I walk through our neighborhood, I'm reminded how special this place is — the beautiful and varied landscape, the clubhouse, and the always-inviting immaculate warm pool and jacuzzi. It truly feels like paradise, and I'm grateful to be part of it. Ocean Hills also offers a wealth of activities, and, if you missed Do Dues Day (as I did while traveling), I'd like to invite you to take a look at our Billiards Club. In addition to regular Thursday play, we host 3-Ball and 6-Ball Dutch Doubles tournaments every Tuesday at 1:30 pm, with large Bavarian pretzels, and logoed tumblers as prizes. You can play a 9-ball ladder match with a pool buddy at any time, drop in on a ladies' billiard and get together every Thursday 9:30 am and Saturday at 1 pm. There are also cash prizes, pizza parties, pro-lessons, and more fun planned throughout the year. If you would like to hear more about the Billiards Club, feel free to stop by on a Tuesday or Thursday at 1:30 pm or text me at (619) 813- 7013. I'm always open to ideas from members and non-members alike on how we can continue to grow and improve the club. My best, Harris Golden, President of the Billiards Club Billiards If you are looking for a way to reduce stress and anxiety, and a way to increase flexibility and balance, then Tai Chi exercise may be just what the doctor ordered. Originally, Tai Chi was developed for self-defense, but has evolved into a graceful form of exercise. Some describe it as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai Chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. It is especially suitable for older adults who otherwise may not exercise. The benefits of Tai Chi may include decreased stress, improved mood, increased energy, improved flexibility, balance, and agility, and improved muscle strength. OHCC offers a free Tai Chi class each Tuesday and Thursday, 9 to 10 am, in the Abravenal Hall. Each class is led by a video presentation that lasts about 45 minutes.
