| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2026 | 53 Our club was well-represented at the District 16 (North Side) Christmas Party, thanks to the organizers' kind invitation to some "outsiders" from south of Sun Lakes Blvd. The event was billed as an "Ugly Sweater" soirée which may explain the outfits pictured that were sported by the lady picklers in attendance. They are pictured at right (L-R): Mary Lachman, Terre Hodgson, Terri Weitz, Liz Denembo, Pam Eckert, Solveig Kruse, and Debbie Caputo-Pritchett. The evening was a rousing good time. Everyone survived a lively snowball fight although the marshmallows did not. Ballots were submitted for various categories of hideousness and the "winners" took home prizes. All who attended appreciated the efforts of the District team. With mid-winter upon us, our members will appreciate the SoCal version of Jack Frost's mischief. We have been filling the courts at the Pavilion as 2025 came to a close. The club officers are gratified by the enthusiasm on display, especially when all eight courts are bustling in the morning play. We see a terrific return on the modest investment the club asks. In return for the $15 annual dues, players not only enjoy the amenities of this Sun Lakes recreation venue but the club provides approved balls and can loan paddles to beginners. This spares anyone investigating our oddly-named sport a "try it before you buy it" opportunity. And there's more! Members and guests have the chance to party during the year. September the club hosted a get together at the courts. Between the club-provided grilled meats and side dishes prepared by volunteers, it was a fun time. So, if this sounds like a recruiting letter, it is. If you haven't discovered the fastest growing sport in America, give Royce Newman a buzz at (951) 809-2302. He can explain the schedule. See you on the courts! Pickleball Club By this time in the New Year, our Executive Board has proposed our calendar of activities and major events. New and returning members have registered, and the 2026 Membership Directory is nearing completion. Club members are advised to check their emails for dates, times, and details related to the possibility of a Valentine's Dinner and Dance Party. Our club's fourth quarterly meeting included the election of our new Executive Board and the 2025 Member of the Year award, given to Michele Walter. Michele was lauded by former Member of the Year recipient, Kim Jensen, as an "inspiration" due to her "above and beyond efforts." The Sun Lakes Country Club website features further information about the Tennis Club. Our Sun Lakes Tennis Club's Facebook page is a useful source for up-to-date pictures of tennis players and events. For direct contact with club leadership, please contact the Club Secretary, David Nethercott, at (315) 414-2408 or prairieborn@ aol.com. David Nethercott will continue leading a First Saturday of the Month Mixed Doubles Drop-In. So, regardless of skill level, join your old and new friends on Sat., Feb. 7, starting at 8 am. Tennis balls are provided. There is no fee. Tennis Executive Board (L- R): Michele Walter, Vice President; Peggy Huetten, Treasurer; Kim Jensen, President; David Nethercott, Secretary
